ONONDAGA VALLEY ACADEMY CHOIR Vs if UR I939-40 season opened successfully wilh lhe second Academy Revue, The Top l-lal Follies, aller which lhe Onondaga Valley Academy Choir .L .42 was organized. We immedialely began preparalions lor lhe Annual Chrislmas Carol lnlernalional Broadcasl, in which Belly Kero, soprano, was soloisl. The same weelc, wilh lhe aid ol Miss Ryan, Miss Andrews, and Mr. McLaughlin, we presenled lhe lirsl annual Chrislmas Candle Lighl Service here in our audilorium. Our nexl performances were presenled al LaFayelle Melhodisl Episcopal Church, where we sang lor lhe Sunday Evening Service, and laler al lhe Beauchamp Branch Library. Nexl lollowed a busy period ol sludy for our presenlalion al lhe cily-wide Spring Feslival ol lhe Syracuse l-ligh Schools, and on May lb, l94O we presenled our own Spring Concerl, an invilalion allair lor lhe music lovers ol lhe Valley, pul on enlirely by a sludenl commillee, headed by Marge Dunn. Exlensive worlc has been done by small groups from lhe choir, such as, our sexlelle including Belly Kero, Frances Poller, Jeanne Gee, Richard Church, Charles Kirschenbaum, and William Fishi a lrio ol Muriel l-lineman, Doris Weaver, and Orel Lanning, and various duel combinalions. Solo worlc has been done by Belly Kero, Frances Poller, and Charles Kirschenbaum. These groups have presenled programs lor lhe Syracuse Monarch Club, D.A.R. Chapler, convenlion ol Principals and Super- visors ol lhe Syracuse schools, and lhe Genelaslca Club. Radio appearances have been made over WSYR lor an American Legion program, and over WFBL lo adver- lise lhe Academy Revue and cily-wide Spring Feslival. The proceeds ol our successlul season have been pul lo good use lhrough lhe purchase ol robes for lhe choir, music lor lhe voice classes and glee clubs, a spollighl lor lhe school, and a sel ol drums lor lhe orcheslra. Our school year has been brighlened by a l-lallowe'en parly, a Chrislmas parly, and a lormal dinner al Drumlins lo close lhe season. Honor and lame was broughl lo lhe choir, school, and lhe cily by Belly Kero when she won a nalional compelilion lor a scholarship al Curlis lnslilule ol Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We wish lo express our sincere apprecialion lo Mrs. Dederer, our direclor, lor guiding us lhrough a mosl prosperous and enjoyable year, and we look lorward lo a successful lulure.

On February 8, Dracova presenled a double lealure program consisling ol lwo one-acl comedies enlilled Evening Dress lndispensibleu slarring Mary Ellen Good- ion, Geraldine Wilson, Virginia Roberls, Richard Church and Thomas Carden, and Nol To-nighl casling Belly Amidon, Belly Walkingslick, Shirley Dousl, William Fey, and Floyd Fancell. Laler lhese plays were presenled in individual paid assemblies lor lhe benelil ol lhe Alhlelic Associalion. Following a February meeling lhe members enioyed a spaghelli dinner, which was held al lhe home ol William Eager. In lhe spring, we admilled lhe lollowing people: Jeanne Blaisdell, Leonard Cahoon, Virginia Cusick, Edna Fikes, Richard l-larris, Jean l-loude, John l-lunilord, Lorena l-lymes, Orel Lanning, Belly Moore, Donald Newsholm, Frances Poller, Garrell Slryker, and Wilma Young. The inslallalion lor lhese members was held in lhe school audilorium and was lollowecl by an enlerlainmenl and relreshmenls in lhe gymnasium. Eighleen members allended Chillenango High School's dress rehearsal lor lhe play Meel lhe Folks which we are considering lor a spring produclion. Dracova held a roller skaling parly on May 8 al lhe Jellerson Rollerdrome. On May 20, lhe sociely presenled a one-acl play called Who's Who in lhe Home al Drumlins. The casl consisled ol Geraldine Wilson, Wilma Young, William Fey, and Richard Church. The season was closed wilh an annual banquel.

On February 7, Tri-Y sponsored a slraling parly al lhe Jefferson Rollerclrome. Laler in February, a parly was held in lhe rumpus room al lhe Y.W.C.A., al which Barbara Williams, Dorolhy Dwyer, and Barbara Davis were inducled. During Feb- ruary, Belly Kero was chosen as delegale lo lhe Tri-Y convenlion in Rochesler. On March 5, Miss Palricia O'Shea, Max Faclor Malce-up Arlisl, leclured on lhe arl ol malce-up. ln April lhe girls mel for a covered dish supper al which Miss Maloney, personnel manager from lhe Addis Company, lallced on spring slyles. A lea was held on May ll al lhe home of Miss Ryan. To conclude lhe season's aclivilies, an ouling wilh I-li-Y was held al Elmwood Parlc on May l7.
