SeaTed aT her desk in The inner oTFice, lovable, gray-haired Mrs. Edward L. RoberTson has Taken over The posT of AcTing Dean oT Girls. For This imporTanT posT, wiTh iTs many associaTed duTies, Mrs. RoberTson has many years oT Teaching experience behind her To rely upon. The widow oT The laTe Judge Edward L. RoberTson compleTed her elemenTary and secondary educaTion in Syracuse schools. Following ThaT she sTudied Tor one year in Germany. Upon her reTurn To The UniTed STaTes, Mrs. RoberTson enTered SmiTh College aT NorThampTon, MassachuseTTs, and was graduaTed Trom ThaT noTed girls' school wiTh The degree of Bachelor oT LeTTers. TwenTy years oT Teaching in privaTe schools in Syracuse, as well as membership on The Board oT EducaTion and nine years as iTs presidenT, have admirably equipped our Dean oT Girls To cope wiTh any oT The problems she will conTronT in her work here. Since Taking over her posT as a member oT The Valley TaculTy aT The beginning of The Spring Term, Mrs. RoberTson has devoTed mosT oT her Time To visiTing The homes OT ill ValleyiTes, helping Them in keeping up Their school work. Cases oT Truancy and absences oT all kinds are invesTigaTed by Mrs. RoberTson in an eTTorT To keep up The scholasTic level in our school. While serving on The Board oT EducaTion, Mrs. RoberTson had opporTuniTy To see and know each of The Syracuse Public Schools and The boys and girls in Them. Maybe ThaT is The reason Tor SuperinTendenT oT Schools Dr. G Carl Alverson's sTaTe- menT: Mrs, RoberTson's work aT Valley has meT wiTh much success. ln helping The sick wiTh Their lessons while They are absenT from school, and by geTTing oTlier pupils To school when They should be There, Mrs. RoberTson is per- forming a valuable service. The Trend in educaTion Today is Toward more social work, invesTigaTing The reason Tor poor marks and absences Trom classrooms. Valley is keeping in sTep wiTh The i938 parade Through Mrs. RoberTson's endeavors. Then Too, as Dean oT Girls, Mrs. RoberT- son will be able To guide and help where a man principal naTurally is noT able. DespiTe her comparaTive newness To Valley, our Dean oT Girls has already won many warm Triends among The sTudenT body and her Tellow TaculTy members. Her Triendly smile and pleasanT manner are now a parT oT The Academy. We wish her luck and conTinued success in our ever expanding Alma MaTer.

The girls who received Tormal iniTiaTion aT The HoTel Syracuse were Elaine CosT, MargareT Diringer, Norma Hills, Gladys Jacobs, Sally Lewis. Georgia Lively, Lois Long, Mary MonTorTe, Joan Moran, Shirley STrebel, Jane WhiTTord, and June WhiTTord. A Silver Tea was held aT The home of Shirley STrebel in November. The members and Their Triends enjoyed a hayride in November. AT Thanksgiving, a baskeT was Tilled Tor a needy Tamily. On December l8Th, a T-Tayseed Hop was held aT Onondaga Hill Grange Hall. The insTallaTion oT oTTicers Tor The Spring Term Took place in January aT The home of Rose WalTer. On February l3Th, we held our yearly Founders' Day Tea aT The Onondaga HoTel. AnoTher chapTer of Pi Phi was sTarTed in February in Oxford, New York. On February 27Th, The girls and Their Triends enioyed a sleigh-ride. A Tramp ParTy was given Tor The Rushees on March 3rd aT The home OT Joan and MarqareT Moran. AT The Tormal iniTiaTion aT The Onondaga HoTel The socieTy received The Tol- lowing girls: Eleanor BaTes, Darlene Brooks, Rosemary EllioTT, Evelyn Houser, BeTTy Jones, MarTha LuddingTon, Eleanor Maas. DoroThea Murphy, AlTa Peck, Jessie Peck- ham, Mary Emma PeTers, Susan Zimmerman, Jane Zogg. On Friday, May I3Th, a Jinx Dance was held in The school gym wiTh Don Davison furnishing The music. Plans are being made Tor a Coney RoasT To be held in The laTTer parT oT May. We will Tinish This year's acTiviTies wiTh an annual banqueT. Each year The girls meeT once again Tor a Two weeks' ouTing aT camp.
