CLASS HISTORY - continued At last the band reached its senior year with Mr. Dole as its advisor. The band leaders were Howard Houser, president, Russell Smith, vice-president, Marcella Young, secretary, and for the fourth time julian Hall, treasurer. The Senior year consisted of many money making projects so that all could be assured of the trip to New York City at Easter for five days and four nights. Among the projects were the sale of Christmas cards, station- fi -Z jff gitlg ery, magazines, and banners. At games they sold popcorn pop, and apples. Once again they had a 'Sadie Hawkins' S Q dance and another glance in the fall which they called W 'September jubilee. Another project was a paper drive. j L, S: In the spring their activities were completed with the ' production of the Senior Play, 'They Gave Him a Co-ed. Y, if n At last after twelve years of rehearsing, the big day of the performance will arrive. The band has lived, worked, and played together for all these years and now it looks forward to the performance with a little sadness at the thought of all the things that will be missed and a little frightened at the prospect of entering a strange new phase of life where each one must stand alone. But along with these, we find each one with his share of happiness, knowing that with the passing of graduation, 1955, this much of their lives has been a great success. j 1 W ,Jiff M :Q 511.gif -'11 ,- it ' ,- - r 1 'uw'.::,... CLASS HISTORY The graduating class of 1955 began to organize its band many years ago when it was very small. It seems so long ago that it has nearly been forgotten, but once again we recall it to memory. When it began to organize there were for the first rehearsal in the central building Donna Curtis, David Fenner, David Fish, Mary jane Hay- den, Howard Houser, jo Ann Hull, Edith Loader, Mary Perry, Richard Ramsden, Bmce Saunders, Richard Sharpe, Janice Smith, and Anne Wheeler. Meanwhile also at re- hearsal were Anna Bronner, Katherine Evans, julian Hall, Mary Roberts, Donna Sager, Russell Smith, and Beverly Youker in the Rockwell building. Thus the rehearsal was under way for the big performance that seemed so far ' away, and each person was trying very hard to attain the knowledge to reach this goal. As their band progressed many were added to their organization. The first addition occurred in the third year when John Madison joined them, left in the fourth Kay Evans grade and returned in the sophomore year. In the fourth Sdutmorian year Linda Hay and Marcella Young joined the band fol- lowed by Bernard Finlay in the fifth at the central building. Then came along Anne Boice, Grant Powell, and Rosemary Parker in the sixth grade. Next came the seventh year when the Rockwell members made their way to the central building and they could all start rehearsing together for the performance which did not seem quite so far away now. All had gone well for the first eight years of school and much knowledge had been gathered. In the freshman year of the band's existence, William Adsitt and Paul Luchsinger were added. Now serious rehearsing had begun with Thomas Oswald as their President. The Vice-President was james Wheatlyg the Secretary was Stanley Ashmusg and the Treasurer was julian Hall. Miss Deyo was the advisor of the band during the freshman year. As sophomores the band's rehearsing continued, aided by Richard Russell who was a new- comer. They chose as leaders Katherine Evans, president, Howard Houser, vice-presidentg David Fish, secretary, and julian Hall treasurer once more. Under the leadership of Miss Deyo the sophomore activities consisted of selling school supplies. When they were juniors the band fwith Miss Deyo as their advisory had one more new member, Stephen Ross. They selected as leaders, Russell Smith, presidentg Katherine Evans, vice-presi- dentg Marcella Young, secretary, and once again julian Hall, treasurer. Their junior year was filled with activities for raising money for their trip no New York as seniors. Among them were the sale of candy, hot dogs, and doughnuts and a bake sale. ,Two dances for the purpose of making money were a 'Sadie Hawkins' dance and a St. Patrick's dance called the 'Shamrock Ball. In addition they had a girls and boys basketball game and an Alumni Banquet. All can thank them for the junior-Senior Prom, 'Rhapsody in Blue,' which proved that they were not constantly at work raising money. A trip to Fillmore Glen for a picnic was their reward for a year of hard work which all had enjoyed. With the selection of class rings and the production of the Yearbook, their junior year of rehearsal came to an end and all looked forward to the Senior year which would be climaxed with the performance so long awaited. -
