Ending their regular season with a 10-0 record, the Redskins scored an average of 40.1 points per game and held their opponents to a mere 4.4 points per game. Statistics such as these propelled the Redskins into the No. 1 2A position, a title which the Redskins earned after three play-off games. Seniors making outstanding plays in their final homecoming game were John NeSmith, who broke open for a 69 yard scamper for a touchdown, and Tim Stewart, who passed six yards for a touchdown. Junior Jim Patton opened up the second half by returning the kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. They each work hard and spend a great deal of time in their respective gymnastics areas. The members are selected on the basis of ability at the winter try-outs held each year. Un- der the field direction of drum major Keith Hibbs, the band received a rating of excellent at both contests. The majorettes and color guard were rated superior at Troy State and excellent at Mid-South. In addition the Band presented original half-time shows at all ballgarnes and entertained students at the pep rallies. Individual sec- tions, the drum corps, guidons, and majorettes also performed at pep rallies. ,. J an Harrelson and Lee Guyton attended the 1970-71 Alabama Conference on Citizenship at the Jefferson Davis Hotel in Montgomery. Jan Harrelson also received the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award. Jan, Sandra Arnold, and Donna Jones were nominated by the Senior class and from these three the faculty selected one. The award is sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolu- tion.
