Echo editors asked as they worked in school Satur- day mornings getting the paper ready for the printer. Renowned for their sleuthing abilities, the staff- ers stalked faculty members for clues to stories. M'orking hours after school, the Echo staff found much satisfaction in relating news to OHS students. A special issue for the Norwich football game highlighted the work for the year. Spending Saturday mornings at school, trudging all over town to collect ads, and coming early Fridays to help distribute The Echo, members of the staff worked hard to uphold the high standards of the paper. For the eleventh consecutive year, The Echo was awarded Medalist, All-American, the Quill and Scroll International Honor Award and the Gallup Award. Mrs. Gladys R. Brink, adviser, received the Gold Key Award last spring at the CSPA conven- tion for her work in high school journalism. These familiar sounds were usually heard coming from room 34 each Monday night, as math clubbers struggled to master the use of the slide rule. Such projects as surveying, use of the plane table, the transit, and the stadia tube, along with frag- ments of calculus, and a field trip at the end of the year, comprised the club activities.

Staff Aims For Top Annualg Members Exchange Ideas Now, where did that copy go? asked Norman Hungerford, editor, as he searched frantically through stacks of papers and pictures. Members of the staff worked afternoons from the beginning of the school year taking pictures, identifying them, writing copy and headlines. During the annual subscription drive in October, hotnerootn chairmen attained 100 per cent subscrip- tion in four homerooms. Those homerooms who reached this goal were presented with free ice cream. In late August two members of the yearbook staff attended the NSP.-X convention at Ann Arbor, Michigan. There they attended journalism classes to aid them in producing this year's annual. .-Xt the ESSP.-X convention at Syracuse in October, staffers met with other students from all parts of New York State to talk over new ideas. !'
