A F1 - c Math Clubbers Labor To Master Slide Rule, Transit Scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship, and char- acter, were the criteria by which 20 seniors were elected to the National Honor Society. A holly-selling project at Christmas time pro- vided funds for an annual tea held in the Home Economics House for some 100 alumni of OHS now away at college. These familiar sounds were usually heard coming from room 34 each Monday night, as math clubbers struggled to master the use of the slide rule. Such projects as surveying, use of the plane table, the transit, and the stadia tube, along with frag- ments of calculus, and a field trip at the end of the year, comprised the club activities.

Club members helped in the library in various ways. Their jobs included charging out books, putting books on the shelves, checking in new magazines, and getting back issues of magazines for students doing research work. On Valentine's Day the club held its annual tea for the faculty. To nuance their annual trip, the club members sold Christmas cards and magazine subscriptions early in the year. Echo editors asked as they worked in school Satur- day mornings getting the paper ready for the printer. Renowned for their sleuthing abilities, the staff- ers stalked faculty members for clues to stories. M'orking hours after school, the Echo staff found much satisfaction in relating news to OHS students. A special issue for the Norwich football game highlighted the work for the year. Spending Saturday mornings at school, trudging all over town to collect ads, and coming early Fridays to help distribute The Echo, members of the staff worked hard to uphold the high standards of the paper. For the eleventh consecutive year, The Echo was awarded Medalist, All-American, the Quill and Scroll International Honor Award and the Gallup Award. Mrs. Gladys R. Brink, adviser, received the Gold Key Award last spring at the CSPA conven- tion for her work in high school journalism.
