Band Creates Routines, Plays For Special Ceremoniesg us, M'ith a roll of the drums and a toss ol' their tasseled hats, the band started their routines during half times of the football games. Led through tricky maneuvers by Edward Finney, drum major, they incorporated many new steps into standard tunes. High-kicking white bucks marked the beginning of She'll be Comin' 'Round the Mountain as the band imitated rigid German marching bands. In the formation of a Car, the band moved down the field during one half time to the melody ol My Merry Oldsmobile. Other songs which the band marched to were Hello, l.ibert5 Bell, and The Marine Hymn. This yt'ar's band was one ol' my best marching bands, Mr. Carmen Claiana, band leader com- mented, Altogether, the band marched in sexen parades. lhe laying ol two cornerstones, Valley view School and the addition to the Fox Memorial Hospital, lotmd the band marching and playing. Crchestra Furthers Development Of Musical Talent All year the orchestra worked with their May i informal concert in view. Highlighted by the selec- tion, Concerto For B Clarinet and Strings, by C. F. Handel, the concert included many solos by members of the orchestra playing clarinet, oboe, and strings with piano accompaniment. As football season ended, the orchestra grew as it gained brass and woodwind players from the band. -L- In November, three string players were chosen to represent OHS at the sectional All-State Festival held at Hartwick College. Many small groups of the orchestra entertained local service clubs throughout the year. They also played at baccalaureate and graduation. .-Xt the end of the year, they put away their instruments and planned a picnic at Gilbert Lake.
