Q i Sclence and Engmeerlng Club The 1940 41 sclence classes of Onexda Hugh School establlshed the new Sclence and Engmeer mg Club afflllated wlth the Nlatlonal SCICHCC and Engmeermq Instltute under the sponsorshxp of Mr Dalton The club orgamzed after anuary elected as 1ts officers the followmg Preszdent George Tomlinson Vxce Preszdent George Bnshop Secretary anet Covell Treasurer Robert Harsma At one afternon meetmg of the club Betty Hotchkxss explamed the process of pasteurxzmg mllk whxch was most mterestmg At the same meetmg Betty Grazxanno gave a book report on the l1fe of Pasteur At a meetmg held xn the evenmg Dr Crockett held his audnence spellbound wxth tales of his trlp to the Yucatan Another program gxven by Muriel Hauger explamed the process of makmg bottle caps Three members of the club Betty LaFaro Murxel Hauger and Robert Sutherland had prevnously made a survey of the plant On Apnl 5th SIX members of the club attended the Scxence and Engmeerxng Congress held at Syracuse Unxversxty Robert Haskel and ohn Kanxusher entered exhxbxts whxch were awarded gold medals and Betty Hotchklss Barbara Latham Murxel Hauger Bettv Wllkxnson and Ioseph Sentz gave flfteen mlnute lectures for vnhnch Mxss WllklH5OH was nxarded a gold medal The club was responsible for the Scxence banquet xxhxch xx as held m the sprmg Thls was open to all the sclence classes and was a grand success Th1S club was organlzed vuth the xdea that educatlonal programs can be mterestmg and xt proved to be one of Mr Dalton s most successful experlments I qp - V 1 .
