A f 35'-C-SEQ Girls Athletic Council With Sis Carmon as its president the Girls Athletic Council can feel proud of its work direction In intramural sports the girls played Soccer Baseball Basketball Volley Ball and Soft Ball For the first time a play day was held at Morrisville with twelve girls from Oneida participating in the activities In the morning Volley ball was played at noon a covered dish luncheon was served The girls were divided into color teams and in the afternoon a Round Robin Tournament was held in basketball with the Peach Team as champions Later there was mdoor roller skating skiing and dancing In April there was another play day at Cazenovia In une four schools got together at the lake for swimming All together the girls had a very successful year Officers Preszdent Elizabeth Carmon Vice President eanette Cunningham Secretary Barbara Burke Treasurer Olive Cmaylo , A www. Volleyball Onelda Hxgh Schools unbeaten volleyball team annexed the second annual Proctor Hxgh Invntatnon Tournament March 29th Thus was the second year ln a rom that Coach Fred Duncan s boys have won the tournament ln the playoff round Sauquoxt Valley and Whltesboro splnt m thenr two game match and bowed to Onenda twlce In the decxdmg game for the runnerup posxtxon Whxtesboro mustered all xts strength to down a fightmg Sauquolt team I5 6 The well set up plays of the Oneida snr proved the decxdmg factor as Walt Arnold contmually spxked the neat set ups of Bob Haskell playoffs Onexda vuent on to defeat N Y Mmlls and Whxtesboro IH the semx fmals at Whxtesboro The sectxonal finals were held at One1da Aprll 24th xuth Sauquoxt Parxsh and Onelda as hnahsts Agam Onelda vuent through wlthout losmg a s1ngle game and xunnmg the fxrst sectlonal tournament Onelda has had an unusual record ln the past tvuo years losmg only the flrst game they played m 1940 at Proctor and not havxng lost one smce Uneida is favored to win the sectional tournament. 1 Band The Oneida Hxgh School Band had a very successful season this year both on the Held and concert stage We played at all the home football games and one outslde game at lllon We also d1d our part nn the natlonal defense program by sendxng several contmgents of draftees off to the army Several of us furmshed music for the cxrcus which came to town last fall A few from our ranks were also honored by wmnmg state and natxonal honors for solo and ensemble work chxef among thes bemg the clarmet trombone and drum quartets and soloists Paullne Delpho and ohn Swallow The concert band gave two concerts one m March and the other ln May The Band Boosters Club purchased a sousaphone a French horn a barltone horn an oboe two alto clarmets and a bass clarmet roundmg out our mstrumentatnon to a full seventy three piece un1t as compared to last year s forty five plece outfit So closed a most excellent season under the capable and patxent dnrectxon of Mr Campbell assisted by the followmg officers Secretary Alice Wllllams Treasurer ean Henty Lzbrarzan Milton Xedls President, , ..r,, ,,e,,e , Y A, ,e s, e Iohn Swallow W A, , , .,., ,e Y Y e. , ,, I
