Junior Class History — At the beginning of school in the year 1948 there were four members in the Freshman Class; all girls. Since the Freshman and Sophomore Classes were so small, we combined the two for the election of officers. The second week in September, the Freshmen were initiated. Initiation costumes were quite hilarious. Retha McCann wore shorts, a man's Shirt, and a long black sock with a blue ribbon for a garter. Lois Campbell appeared in an old green dress with a girdle on the outside, Darlene Shuler sported blue jeans, inside out, and a man's shirt. Mary Ann Hughes arrived in white shorts and a blouse. All had uncombed hair with green ribbons, and they were barefooted. After the initiation, we journeyed to Sycamore Springs where we were treated to a picnic dinner by the upperclassmen. In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed skating. On our first class party, they went to the movie, The Babe Ruth Story, in Sabetha. : In the fall of 1949, the Sophomore Class started the year with just two members of last year's Freshman Class. Those members who were missing were Retha McCann, who is working in Clay Center; and Lois Campbell, who was in the hospital at Kansas City when the term started, and decided not to go this term. The Freshman and Sophomore Officers for 1949-1950 are as follows: ESC MNE G G6 6 G0 0 6 0 6 0.00 6 6-50 6 6 0 0 66 6 0 DOM ence VELOSO RESIGENS 5 G 6 50 6 6 6 o 0 ooo Ol oo Alea MAS mona BIECLOULLAISCEEINIENS SG 6 9 5 6 90 0000 0 0 coo 6 [Ay Ann Kemnas OTP 656 6 0 6 ooo Kl Kt og oo Ltipadiliin Gaose (CHASS BINNS 66 5656 6 00060 0 6 6 is Uehin IR, Sopline, Gre, Darlene Shuler left the Sophomore Class the sixth week of the second semester. At the beginning of the school this year there was only one Junior; Mary Ann Hughes. Since there is only one girl, the Junior Class hasn't had any parties. The Class Sponsor is Mrs. Mary Kibler. Mary Ann has been busy selling wrapping paper to sponsor the Junior- Senior Banquet. The High School put on a three act play named Just Ducky with the proceeds going to the Junior Class. 18

Freshman - Sophomore Class History When school began in September of 1950 there were eight Freshmen; three boys and five girls. The Sophomore class had two girls. Vaden Allen was a very lovely looking creature in his white lacy nightie and his green hair ribbon. Barbara King, Raymond Hoover, Buddy Bauman, and La Rae Chandler wore becoming gunny Sacks, green hair ribbons, onions tied at their knees, and make-up on one-half of their tases. Laura Smith, who is now going to school in Hiawatha, wore overalls backwards with an onion at her knee. At the close of the initiation the Freshmen were blindfolded and served macaroni soaked in castor oil. After the exciting initiation the entire school went to Sycamore Springs for a picnic dinner. After dinner many of the students took some exercise by hiking up the long hill. Later in the afternoon the skating rink opened and everyone enjoyed an after- noon of skating. 19
