That he's all things to all people? He is you know! When you're down, he can bolster your spirits. When you’re successful, he can applaud your success. When you are out of line he can straighten you out. OHS is lucky to have him and we all hope to keep this able boss friend teacher for many more years. Principal Mr. Jack Campbell—our principal, our friend, our counselor, our guide and our confidant. Mr. Campbell has a good word for everyone and he can always make a big problem melt away. 16 Mrs. Lee has genuine interest in all of our problems, real and imagined. She is so cooly efficient that we usually forget how many really important and time consuming jobs are hers to do every day. Maybe its because she always takes time to smile and speak to all who enter her domain (and doesn’t everyone). Mrs. Ficklin--girl friday to Mr. Campbell is also the secretary at the grade school. She wears both hats equally well. She even puts out the daily bulletin—without which we’d probably be late to everything. (Some of us are anyway.) 17 Donald Bates Texas Wesleyan University, B.S., Physical Education Jerry Cornell Eastern Illinois University, B.S., History Ben Guyot Murray State College, B.S., Science Henrietta Landwer B.S. The OHS Drama Club presented two productions this year, Up the Down Staircase in the fall, and You were Born on a Rotten Day in the spring. There were two theatre trips sponsored by the Dra -ma Club, one in the winter and one in the spring. The outstanding historical musical comedy, 1776 at the Shubert was the winter trip, and the comic drama Sleuth at the Blackstone was the spring trip. Both presentations were in Chicago. 29 National Honor Society Row One: D. Rohrbach, J. Eversole, S. Zick, T. Gagnon. Row Two: M. Wilken, P. Tremblay, J. Gudeman, D. Reed, K. Guest, Sponsor. Narghi News i For the second consecutive year, the Narghi News has been an active and productive force within our school. Eight issues (including two twelve page special issues) were distributed this year. Even more eagerly awaited this year was Narghi News day. Eighty or ninety of our 110 people bought their own copies each month, and each word was hungrily gobbled up. Most of the operating funds are earned through ad sales in the spring of each year. The remaining money comes from sales of the papers at the end of each month. Each issue seemed a little smoother and more professional than the others before it. 33 UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE 34 Sylvia Barrett. . Paul Barringer . Beatrice Schachter J. J. McHabe . . Sadie Finch . . When faced with the prospect of no football due to financial disaster, the community rose up and shouldered the load. That was two years ago, and the Onarga Booster Club has never failed to come through with money for the always revered sport of the gridiron. This year our record was 1-7, but no one gave up, especially the booster club. With this kind of community support, we'll always be winners no matter what the record. 48 49 Front Row: J. Leydens, B. Basketball is no exception. Schaumburg’s Li 1 Indians have tried valiantly this year, and, in spite of a poor, over-all record for the season, they never gave up the fight. Each defeat teaches a boy new things, and he is less likely to repeat those same errors. This is where the apprenticeship comes in. We should really be ready for varsity ball. President Bob Zirkle; aided by Vice-President, Kathy Lustfeldt; Secretary, Donna Claypool; and Treasurer, Gale Rueck led the class in many money making projects. A smorgasbord in the fall and bake sale car wash in the spring sent them well on their financial way. Darlene Reed and Fred Macz ably represented our class in the Student Council. Since, there can only be a three day class trip, some of our financial burden is lightened for next year. 75 76 seniors New Orleans, Biloxi, Memphis: a day fully spent in each city. New Orleans is a beautiful city. The seniors enjoyed a tour through the city, a ferry ride, dinner at the Court of Two Sisters, an evening stroll through the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, and late night swimming and eating. Biloxi showed them the Gulf and many hours on board a shrimp boat. Evening life in Memphis for the class of '72 was The Gaslight Dinner Theatre where they enjoyed Catch Me If You Can”. Many hours of bus travel plus swimming, pizza parties, and fun brought the class closer together and Ma and Pa Wright and Uncle A1 were the greatest! We have awaited it, longed for it, and at last it's here--only now we face it with hesitation--almost sorrow. For many, this night is only one step to college and higher education. For them, this night means one type of sorrow. For others, this night means the end of all association with education and the security this association brings. Theirs is another type of sorrow. But all sorrow is moderated and overshadowed by joy! The meaning of mixed emotions becomes clear as never before. The class flower, the daisy; and the class colors, blue and white will symbolize this evening of evenings in the years to come. 81 Senior Awards Deborah Hamilton Valedictorian, DAR, American Legion Award, Louis Melind Award.
