Dear Norman It's been a long time since I've been to Onarga, so I thought this was about the best way to communicate with one of my old friends. How are Mary Lee and all the lit'tle house plants running around the hpuse? Whom do you supoose I met the other day? Charles Brewer. I accidently stopped at his beauty salon, where he is managing a thriving business. He is known for his famous pomp hair style. Under the drier in his salon, I happened to see Doris Conn, she said she decided she wanted a different hairdo, so she was trying them all. When Charles called for Wittness Mr. Jones Signed The Senior Class Mr. Norman Bottorff President of Onarga Nursery Onarga, Illinois a manicurist, she proved to be none other than Carol Oromoll. Carol is still playing the field but between you and me she has her eye on a genuine multi-millionare, When Doris and I left the salon, we called on Mrs. Paul Collins, known to us as Phyllis Balding. We rang the bell, and when the door flew open, five dirty-faced little ruffins peered out at us. Phil told us she saw Clyda Harding Nichols (and their clan) the last time she ran home to mother. clyda an(j Glen are now living in the country, at the former home of Robert Meyers. Phil said when Ferdinand, her oldest son, developed a tooth ache she immediately took him to Dr. Deo Klein, where Dee Poprawski is now employed. We left Phil because she had to get dinner ready for Paul and all the little troupers . Walking along we came to the pari where Leo Colebank was feeding the cute little squirrels peanuts. He said he had just heard from Ab Harris. Ab said more and more money was coming in every day. As you know Ab is President of Onarga State Bank now. Walking across the street we were almost run down by a hot-rod with Big Bad Bob Talbert at the wheel. He told us later that he was trying to see how many cars he could miss. Noticing a large crowd near Main Street, we wandered over to the corner and coming down the street were the Girl Scouts of troop No. 23U75859U93078923U56 (I read it on their caps) heading a parade. Along side of them was their Scout Master, Janice Orr. She said she has always enjoyed being with the little people. We moved on and came to a poster advertising the looked-for football game of the year—Ridgeville Tech, vs Delrey Heights, with Ed Greiner as Delrey's star player. As we came upon a bakery, we smelled the aroma of freshly baked pastries. So inside we went, and whom do you suppose we saw—no one but Bob Wulff—preparing his speciality of the day—Giant Cream Puffs. As we passed the Civic Opera House we heard a familiar voice pouring out the door. When we investigated, we found here among all the opera stars, Ronnie Lyons, he is playing the lead in Carmen and, of course, Ruthie is playing opnosite him. As we were leaving Ronnie Lyons,we heard a terrific crash. Much to our surprise Ronnie Redenuis had run into a car with his tractor. He said he was admiring the scenery. It just happend the accident occurred while John Tilstra's show girls were practicing at the outdoor theater. After picking up the pieces, we decided to see what the escort agency was doing, and here we found Joyce Grohler was a co-partner with Paul Bailey. We didn't have much time to talk to either of them because they were busy trying to find escorts for the fat woman and her friend, the bearded lady from Dee Haerr's circus. Dee specializes in snake charming which seems to liven up her daily boring routine. We even found Bill Whitlow working as one of the highest employees of Dee's circus. He scrubs the elephants. Ohh, he exclaimed, It's so exciting. I feel as if I'm up in the clouds, (until the elephants jolts). Since it was getting late, Doris had to run in order to get ready for the dance and so I left her promising I would see her soon. As I walked in the direction of the station, I heard the loud roar of a wild crowd as the train from Hollywood, Calif, pulled into the station. On this train were two great stars two gun Pete and Wyoming Sal, otherwise known to us as Charles Bailey and Joyce Fink. Joyce told me that she had just received a letter from Alara Hildenbrand, who is studying Ancinet Grecian life in Europe. Well, I must get back to my work. It keeps me busy all the time since I am the head of the Super—Dooper Expolding Popcorn Department. Please write and let me know if you have heard from any of the students of preceding years, who have graduated from Onarga High. Bill Whitlow was production manager, Carol Olson, assistant editor, and Mary Lee Lindsay, business manager. The typists for the paper were Valda Dillon, Joyce Fink, Doris Conn, Phyllis Balding, Joyce Grohler, Bill Whitlow, and Norman Bot-torff. The reporters completed the staff. The newspaper was a combination of five printed and five mimeographed issues. Besides publishing the paper for the student body we also sent copies to various schools in our locality. Working on the staff is a time-consuming task as they tried to cover all activities, the various clubs, and organizations. 1041734 First Row: E. Gregory,K. Taylor, M. Schultz,R. Egley, J. Fink, P. This year, for the first time since the school year 19U6-'U7 the student body has had a voice in school government through the actions of representatives elected to the student council. Early in the year, several appointed faculty members drew up a tentative student council constitution which was submitted to the student body for ratification. Class meetings were held during which time the constitution was carefully studied and discussed with class advisors. The constitution was ratified after making a minor revision. In accordance with the constitution, the members of the council consisted of the president of each class, one member from each class of the opposite sex from the president, and one member elected from the student body at large. All officers of tfie council were elected by the members of the council, the only restriction being that a senior must be elected president. This year's officers were: Norman Bottorff, President; Bill Palmer, Vice President; Janice Orr, Secretary; and Lillian Weakley, Treasurer. Ur. Garinger acted as faculty sponsor. Two members of the council were elected this year to serve on the community council to help settle problems which arise. However, the project which has occupied most of the student council meetings this year has been the compilation of a student handbook, to acquaint freshmen, as well as upperclassmen, with school policy, organizations, and traditions. 1041784 Standing: Mr. Bain, C. Mr. Garrity holding V.V. trophy. The Onarga Indians swept through all five of their Vermillion Valley football games to win the title with a perfect record. In addition, the Indians allowed their opoonents only nine points for the best defensive record in the league and one of the best in the State. In their three non-conference games the Indians won a tough contest from Paxton, 6-0. Onarga won their seventh consecutive grid victory 2o-0 in winning the game with Milford. The Indians lost their last game in a tough defensive contest with Gilman, 13-6. Good line play for both teams highlighted the tilt, as the backs were held to a standstill throughout the game. Both the elevens capitalized on penalities to score a touchdown. The game was not decided until the final gm. 1041784 First Row: Mr. Calloway, D. Wilson, G. Patterson, G. Cusator, R. Onarga turned in an impressive vicotry before Christmas by dumping a tough Sheldon five, l 8-l 7. Also included in the hard-fought victory was the re-winning of the county's rotating horseshoe. Onarga led 12-10 at the end of the first period and trailed at the half 30-25. The game see-sawed back and forth until, with a minute to play, Sheldon had a 1 7-1j6 lead. But Onarga sank two free-throws to win the Vermillion Valley by winning the V. V. tourney from very strong competitive opponents. In the first game of the tourney the Indians came from behind to beat Saune-min 1 8-37. The Indians defeated Kempton 50-1 3 in the second game and moved into the finals. In the final game, Onarga trounced Cullom 52-35. 104178 tandings J. Thomas, R. Eshleman, J. Hicks, K. Keaver, R. irkle, H. Becker. Sitting: R. Perkinson, C. Jeans, W. Pal- aar, A. Krause, J.
