SEASON'S RESUME O.M.S 24-BRADLEY 28 The opening game and heartbreaker. The Yellow- jackets rallied twice but in experience handicapped them. 0.M.S. 21-BUCKLEY 27 Injuries and illness started to hit the team as they lost their second game, losing an early lead. Lynch scored 10 of our 21 points. O.M.S. 29-URBANA 46 A holiday game played on New Year's Eve. Too much power for the Yellowjackets. O.M.S. 34-TUSCOLA 40 The Yellowjackets' first game away from home and a close one. Tuscola rallied and won in the last few minutes. O.M.S. 18-GILMAN 39 The first garne of a four-team holiday tournament. Gilman took an early lead and never relinquish- ed it. O.M.S. 33-CULLOM 19 Our first victory and for the consolation prize in the tournament. The boys looked much improved and led throughout. Don Smith scored 15 points for us. O.M.S. 42-PULLMAN TECH 14 The second straight!!! And what a walloping. At one time, we had a 10-1 lead. Smith again scored 15 points. O.M.S. 24-BUCKLEY 33 Buckley's second victory over the Cadets and a heavy blow was dealt when Don Smith, the Yellow- jacket's leading scorer, was seriously injured in the second quarter. O.M.S 17-M.P.M.A. 23 Another close one in which an O.M.S. rally fell short. Both starting forwards were out due to in- juries. O.M.S. 18-KANKAKEE 49 The Yellowjackets fought hard against a superior team. A good game, anyway. Our second straight victory over Thawville played A SCRAPPY FIVE Darrell Davis, Guard Ralph Gast, Capt., Guard Phil Bailey, Forward Moe Utters, Forward Wes Marshall, Center The team's Sparkplug O M.S. 20-THAWVILLE 18 A close one but this time victory for O.M.S. The second team also won, gaining their first victory of the season. OM.S. 25-O.T.H.S. 41 Our first game in many years with the Township. Played at Watseka during the county tournament. O.T.H.S. was held in check three periods but in the fourth they pulled away. Nevertheless, the Yellow- jackets played one of their best games of the season. O M.S. 20-ASH CLIF-30 An afternoon game in which the Yellowjackets couldn't get going. Although the score was 7-9 at the half, from there on the team fared poorly. O M.S. 28-WATSEKA 35 A tall and fast Watseka five that held us pretty well in check. Nevertheless, we totaled 16 points in the last period. O M.S. 35-THAWVILLE 21 at O.M.S. Bailey led the scoring with 11 points. O M.S. 30-KANKAKEE 49 The Kankakee team again proved too powerful, but the Yellowjackets put up a much better fight. O M.S. 30-CHEBANSE 37 A close one but Chebanse pulled away in the last quarter. Played at Chebanse. O M.S. 27-M.P.M.A. 47 Morgan Park's second victory over us. A poorly played game although we rallied in the last quarter. O.M.S. 35-PULLMAN TECH 22 Another victory over Pullman. Gast scored 15 points to lead the Yellowjackets in a well played victory. O.M.S. 41-CHEBANSE 21 The Yellowjackets really avenged an earlier defeat as they drubbed Chebanse 41-21. One of the best played games of the season. Wes Marshall scored 13 points to lead both teams. O.M.S. 37-GILMAN 36 fOvertimeJ What a rally! After trailing by 9 points at the be- ginning of the fourth quarter, the Yellowjackets staged a comeback that was really spectacular. In the overtime, Davis sank a long basket and gave O.M.S. a one point victory. O.M.S. 35-O.T.H.S. 46 The last game of the season as the team met the Township for the second time. This was a Regional game played at Paxton, and the boys really tried. The end of another season for O.M.S. LETTERMEN Height Position Ralph Gast . , ---5 ft 1092 in .. Kneeling: Utters, Varney, Skerrett, Bailey, Fortier, Gast, Schmidt, S., Marshall, Bonner. The second year of Coach Hale's reign as Track Coach at O. M. S. started off as another successful sea- son for the Onarga Yellowjackets. Six returning letter- men, Ralph Gast, Phil Bailey, Ace Bonner, Frank Street, Wes Marshall and Russ Skerrett, formed the nucleus of the team along with John Fortier, first year star who won 10 firsts in the first three meets. Street, however, developed chest trouble and did not compete until the district meet. Rain, which ruined several contests last year was easier on the cadets this season, although several times the track was under water.
