CLASS PROPHECY Dear Mr. Hoppes: Yesterday I was shopping in New York City when I happened to run into Danny Shrieves. We started talking about our high school days and decided to look up all our classmates. Although it was quite a job, as our friends are scattered all over the world, we found that: Today’s biggest Broadway hit is a version of “Cinderella” starring Pennie Adams. Others in the cast are Joyce Hart, Denise Nelson, and Susan Parker, the three ugly step-sisters; Tony Edwards, the handsome prince; and Arlene Smith, the fairy Godmother. Romona Custis, Joyce Bibbins, and Patricia Jefferson went on to pursue a higher education after graduation — they were the first females accepted by West Point. Jimmy Belote is now a chaplain in the armed forces. Barney Russell has bought out the Anheiserbusch Brewery and hired Debbie Daley as official taster. Vic Long got on the ball after graduating from ODU and is presently depositing his second million. Hollie Scott is in Europe waiting for the ocean to freeze so he can ice-skate back to the Eastern Shore. Linwood Davis and Scotty Scott are successful bachelors trying to outdo each other with a chain of Playboy Clubs. Their bunnies are Sylvia Blake and Peggy Martin. Norman Downing was last seen cutting grass on the White House lawn on his riding lawn mower. Donald Matthews is the owner of a large successful garage on Bayside. Mallory Davis, a famed pharmacist, has just discovered a miracle drug to develop height in the male. Craig Savage, a famous lingerie designer, has just marketed his latest design — a hot pink, lace, transparent sleeping set for men. Billy Ewell, a leading T.V. producer, is in the midst of producing “Separate Ways,” a soap opera starring Ann Nicholson and Zelma Mason. The last we heard of Emory Hurst, he was lost in Lurray Caverns, because he dropped his glasses and has never found his way out. Sheila Finney and Robert Windsor are presently battling for the championship on Debbie Lawson’s panel show “Keep Talking.” Jerome Taylor, our country’s leading defense lawyer, is defending Jane Bowling and Darlene Walker in the tragic case of the assasination of our late president, Kevin Harmon, in a Woman’s Lib operation. B. W. James is currently doing commercials as the new “Man From Glad.” Michael Matthews has been appointed pollution control agent of Onancock. Sammy Morris, with the help of his chief mechanic Terry Moore, has recently burned the tracks at Indianapolis and captured the trophy. Pat Wilson was last seen flying over the Atlantic in his flying duck blind. Elizabeth Hudson, the owner of a beauty salon in Los Angeles, is planning to move back to Virginia to escape the smog. Rogers Harrison and Martha Pruitt are still working side by side at Farmex. Eloise Walker, now a Norfolk State faculty member, has decided to get some revenge for her tormenting years in school. Donna Fitchett has become the wife of a chaplain. Vivian Thompso n is now hosting her own panel show, called “Let’s Gripe.” Libby Williams was last week’s guest. Deborah Chandler has taken over Mrs. Senn’s job at O.H.S. 28

Gail Davis, Peggy Harrison, and Beverly Bagwell are secretaries for Morris Poulson who has taken over Green Giant Industries. James Williams has been made President of the Charlie Brown Fan Club. Claude Wise is now very wealthy. He owns half of Las Vegas. Ernest Drummond is considering selling his Eastern Shore Playboy Club. John Kluis was elected Mayor of Never-Never Land last week. Ronnie Custis is still trying to make up his mind between sweethearts. Phyllis Taylor is leading head shrinker in Delmarva’s Psychiatric Ward. Martha Johnson, who gained experience from her high school job at Fork’s Grill, has opened a restaurant on Tangier called “Marty’s Menu.” Gloria Ames is singing at the Metropolitan Opera House. Catherine Tyler is now a famous model in New York City. Joe Lewis, who was always doing something he shouldn’t, was recently seen trying to straighten the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Cora Dix has overthrown Cuba’s government to become “1st Woman Dictator.” Diane L. Doughty and Becky L. Russell are still happily married. Willie Strand and Ralph Fletcher have scored 2,000 points each in their past two years of NCAA action and have accepted $2,000,000 for their first year with the Harlem Globe Trotters. Gaye Savage is now very happy teaching basketball to the Pygmies. We hear George West is still making annual visits to O.H.S. for the sole purpose of aggravating Miss Barnes. Keith Thomas has a chain of Tip-Top Food Markets across the country. Douglas Bundick is still rendering his many services, and his smile, at the popular Armory Dances. Shelia Northan, the highest paid secretary in the U.S., is the favorite employee of Howard Hughes, Jr. Bruce Kellam has been appointed revenue agent of Accomack County. Marie Bailey is his Secretary. After years of hard work, Gwendolyn Ames has become a famous opera star. Teresa Boone’s serious speaking tone won her a position on the Virginia General Assembly last year. We learned that Blanche Bunting has become a successful seamstress and owns her own fashion and fabric shop. The two Allen girls, Abigail and Sadie, have also done well in life. Abigail is now a practicing nurse and Sadie is a typist. Shirley Poulson and Nancy Smith are running a restaurant on the 1400 block of Kerr Street. Emma Nock has received several degrees and is presently a principal of a Junior High School in New York City. So, Mr. Hoppes, you can see how our senior class has changed. Oh! By the way, Danny Shrieves, after graduating from one of the many colleges where he was accepted, is hosting the T.V. show, “How to Shoot the Bull and Still Get A’s.” Did you know I became head fashion buyer for a large Paris clothing industry? I never gave up hope that I’d get back to Europe. With fondest regards, Donna Smith and Danny Shrieves 29
