In trying to do this we have broken with most of the established traditions replacing them with an opening section which provides for the development of a theme. Tills, we were told, was the thing to do, so we have done it. We sincerely hope that our experiment has been a success. In order for improvements to be made, someone must break with tradition; so let this year’s annual staff be known as the one which had the courage, and we hope, the foresight to do it. The Senior and Junior Editors attended the Newspaper Clinic at Richmond this year and came back full of ideas for making the HORNS’ HERALD a school newspaper to be proud of. Throughout this year we have tried to include in our paper opinions of students, interviews with teachers, and book reviews along with the traditional class and club news, sports, and gossip. We hope that including these new things has made our paper a better one than ever before, one that the student body will look forward to reading, one which will keep everyone fully informed on what is happening in our school, and one which has striven to achieve better understanding between the students themselves, and their teachers. Under the direction of Mr. Nicholson from Central, last year the Drama Club put on LIL’ ABNER, which was a huge success. This year the S.C.A. has been quite active. At the beginning of the year they participated in Bundle Days, sold sweat shirts, and opened the school store at lunchtime. At Christmas, the decorated tree brought the Christmas spirit to everyone. Each spring, the new officers are elected. Every member of the student body has the privilege to vote for the candidate of then- choice. Club Officers and Sponsor, Mr. Barnes. Student Council SEATED: D. Shrieves, L. Ruediger, D. Savage. The Beta Club is a leadership organization for high school students whose major purpose is to stimulate effort, reward achievement, and to encourage further education. Membership is based on scholastic achieve¬ ment as well as character and a commendable attitude. Every student is potentially eligible for mem¬ bership, provided he meets the standards deter¬ mined by the local association. Above all, the organization attempts to en¬ courage its members to adhere to the highest principles and practices of honesty and tolerance. Tri-Hi-Y is not a sorority, fraternity, nor social organiza¬ tion. The purpose is to create, maintain and extend throughout the home, school, and com¬ munity high Standards of Christian character. This program was, of course, the Onancock High School Glee Club under the leadership of Miss Connie Rosentreter of Onancock. The club has sung in various programs sponsored by the school and local church organizations. Miss Rosentreter recently stated at a Glee Club practice that this group of young people is one of the best she has ever conducted. LEFT TO RIGHT: B. Davis, K. Hampton, P. Fairhurst, M. Murphy, L.
