Il AIDMINISTRATIUN Xa HIGH 1' , - K ggi., Q sq, um w W -Y Y l At the helm of our administration are two very capable men: Mr. Ireland, superintendent, and Hr. Olsen, principal. Their leadership has been rein- forced by a fine corps of teachers. We appreciate the kind advice we have received during our high school days from these two men. No problem has ever seemed too small for them to help us solve. These are Just some of the things we will always remember them by. The interest they have shown in each one of us has helped us to get the very most out of our school and social life. We shall find this help invaluable as we go out to face the world. 5.....,-4.........,, ., H. .,. .,...,., ..,. .M ...mu ...a.,.,,.,,-A..... . ., , , . ... ,H ... .,. .... 'This date marked both the first anniversary of peace in the world and the advent of the 1951 graduates into high school. Our class at this time numbered sixty-four, the largest ever to be en- rolled at 0.H.S. Immediately this group spread like locusts to take part in all of the activities of the school, with Mrs. Nelson's and Miss Talbert's ardent help. September 1948 marked a pretentious year for fifty-four students. With the extraordinary assistance of Miss Hanlon and Mn Williams, we enJoyed many activities. We survived all the growing pains and major disasters attendant on being sophomores. Our chief reason for survival was the goal soon to be reached--the much more mature and socially acceptable Junior class. Our entry into the Junior class was marked by storm and stress, for we soon discovered that the true pinnacle of life in 0.H.S. was to be achieved only in the senior class. With Mr. Olness and Miss Peterson as our advisors we carried out the heavy work of the school, starting with our class day 'Junior Prom,' which was a very good play. It was enjoyed under adverse conditions--the curtain was raised! Probably the biggest event of the year was the annual Junior-Senior Banquet, with a theme centered around a southern plantation. A class of forty-nine proud students entered the halls of 0.H.S. for the last time in 1951. Although those before us have had senior class plays, skip days, and other important events, we have decided that the 1951 grads will have even better events. Our class will scatter, maybe some of them never coming back to Onamia. Many of them will go into the armed forces or war work, but whatever our destination, surely no class has had a better beginning than the senior class of 1951. Hay the class of '51 make history for themselves, and the school which gave it a start. S a L., fCLASS Wruj We, the seniors of the class of 1951, Mille Lacs County, town of Onamia, Commonwealth of Onamia High School, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish, and declare this our last will and testament in manner and following. The brand of football played was changed from six-man to eight-man football. Even though the Warriors opened the season with Isle and lost, they still had hopes for a tie for conference champs at the least. But when Ogilvie tied the Onamia team 12-12 at Ogilvie, the Warriors hopes were smashed. The Warriors biggest thrill came when they 'Simonized the Saints' on our homecoming night to the tune of bl-O. Some of the Warriors strength will be lost through graduation, but the prospects are bright for next year. 'Q1 . , 1 ,Ma 1 1 1 S- 1 ,..:':TT'f'f j .. The 1951 Warrior basketballers were severely crippled at the season's very outset by the loss of Wayne Larson and Gene Wicklund because of physical disabilities. Since both were veterans, con- siderably adept at playing the double pivot, the Onamians were left without their best offensive weapon. 5 Coach Williams however, did the best with what he had and after an opening loss to a very good Milaca outfit, the team sprang into the win column with a convincing 15-point win over Crosier. Kimmons led the scoring with a year'e high for the Warriors of 19 points. After losing to Princeton, the Warriors continued their mastery over Bt. Francis by winning decisively in a comparatively low scoring game. Losses to Mora, Foley, Ogilvie, Princeton, and Isle followed. The Warriors trailed only 24-21 in the first half of the Isle game, but the Indians got hot in the second half and went on to win another battle in the traditional intertown rivalry. The last game played before the Onamlan went to press was the return engagement with Crosier, in which, by merit of two victories over the Knights this season, the Warriors won the Onamia city-wide championship. Leading their team to a well-deserved 3?-27 win were Ireland, who garnered 15 points from his guard position, and Klmmons, who scored 8 from center. This contest also saw the return to action of Wloklund, who, though bothered still by an injured knee, set up two Warrior baskets and collected M points himself. The odd thing about the contest was that, though Onamia scored 12 and Crosier l points in the final period, a very dull third quarter saw only 2 points scored by either team. ..- 1 :BASKE IBALL: All Back Row: Front Row: R. With a 7-3 record, exactly opposite that of the vars1ty's, the Junior Warriors have played brilliantly under the able tutelage of Mr. Mattson. The B team opened the season with a resounding triumph over Milaca, an accurate foreshadowing of the things to come. A loss to the Crosier team followed, before the Onamlans defeated Princeton, St. Francis, and Mora in order. In those three games, Tommy Strang led his mates to victory with totals of 18, 16, and 12 points, resp- ectively, although the Warriors were forced to come from behind a 3 point deficit at the half to win in the Mora contest. Ahead by 15-lb at halftime, the team dropped a close one to a tall Foley aggregation while on the road. Then came successive vio- tories over Ogilvie, Princeton, and Isle. In the Ogilvie tilt, the team was down ll-6 at the intermission but rebounded to a lb-13 mar- gin at the end of the game. In the encounter with Isle the team scored 18 points in the second quarter, coasting the rest of the way to their seventh win. Just before the Onamian was sent to the publishers, the team dropped a one-point decision to Crosier in their second loss this season to the Knights. Crosier, down by 2 points at the very end of the game, sunk 3 out of 4 gift shots in the last minute to win. 6X6KE T,BA IlL if ,, W 1 0 QKSEBML TE j Lee Strang is the only tour-letter member of the team, earning a letter in each year of his four years in high school. Here the A band made their first public appear- ance wearlng their new uniforms. 'Christmastide' and 'Jingle Bells' were the main numbers that were played that evening. The band has shown great improvement with new instruments and more experienced players. ph? 49 u Wtchfz pun, When two crazy people came to the Haines home by mistake, it was bad enoughg but the impor- tant night of the Junior Prom had arrived and Hildy, the daughter, came down with the measles in time to miss the prom and get the two nuts quarantined there. This was quite an honor bestowed upon the boys, showing that not only were they first-class scouts but also boys of good charac- ter. Prior to attending the Jamboree, the boys went to a training camp at St. Cloud to learn the use of equipment that would be issued them. During their stay at Valley Forge they were taken on tours of various near-by cities: Manhatten, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington. After returning home the boys had only one gripe. The train they rode home was held up three times because of the following: An engine was not available to pull the train, a steam boiler burst in the engine, and last but not least a broken drive shaft. In the pictures the boys look as if they have a swell tan. That is not because of the sun- light. It is coal dust from the train. LEZFTZ EARL IRELAND RIGHTZ ROGER LINDQUIST i ....,N- - , ,..
