X 1 The F.F.A. organization has been quite active this year and has sponsored several projects for raising money for payments on the Ford tractor which was pruchased last year. Dances were given, ice cream sold during the noon hours and after school and at games and several pruning, plowing and mowing jobs completed in the community. Competi- tion was stiff and congratulations are due the members, Dale Willis, Tom Burchett, LeRoy Runyon, Bill Willis, Cliff Johnson, Victor Schuttie and Leroy Badger. Leroy. Runyon and Dwain Jenkins, both from the Sophomore class, entered Aberdeen Angus steers in the competitive judging at the Livestock Show in Auburn April 5, 6 and 7 this spring and many of the boys enrolled in Agriculture classes have earned extra credits with projects. Bill Willis was the representative chosen from the local F.F.A. chapter to attend the state convention in Pullman during the week-end of March 24th. Bill was a junior this year and this is the first time our school representative has not been from the senior class. It was felt that a junior might be able to being back many ideas which could be used to strengthen the local chapter and his leadership would be valuable next year. The officers for this year were Dale Willis, President, Bill Willis, Vice-Presi- dentg Bill Chappell, Secretary, Cliff Johnson, Treasurer, John Jacka, Sgt. -at-Arms, Dick Rambo, Reporter, Mr. Newfield, Advisor. The 1950 track team has increased slightly since last year, and now the team members are: Tom Girard, Jackie Rice, Buddie Newton, Jim Bowen, James Darrin and Paul Sheldon. Tom Girard and Jackie Rice were Lewis County champs last year with Girard running the half mile in 2:09 and Rice running the mile in 4:46. The schedule for this year is: March 30th - April 29th - Raymond, Valley, Onalaska, Chehalis at Chehalis Longeview Relays April 11th - May 6th - At Centralia Sub-district in Centralia April 15th - May 13th - Centralia Relays District at Olympia April 18th - May 19-20th - Kelso, Onalaska, Chehalis at Chehalis State at Pullman All the boys on the team hope to win for Onalaska and also to encourage other to join the team. It seems that on a certain warm afternoon, July lst, 1965, we embarked in a long black convertible and sped away to Seattle on a shopping trip. As we entered Seattle we absent-mindedly run through a stop light. When the patrol officer stopped us we were very much surprised to see that we knew him, for lo and behold, it was our old class- mate Darrell Burden. Helping him make out the ticket was Eunice Moltz. We couldn't find a place to park the car so we decided to have it greased, and drove to a nearby Shell Station. Much to our surprise who should be working there but Howard Kalnoski. We stopped and talked to Howard for a few minutes and he told us that Jack Rice was working in a big butcher shop in New York City. We left the car and as we walked dovm the street we saw two familiar faces. We stopped to gaze upon them and after a few seconds we recognized them as Mr. and Mrs. Dale Willis. Dale and Darlene told us that Delaine Nederlander is in the Army and that Tom Girard is a great Professor in the Harvard University. We hear from different sources that Joann Williamson is working in a big photog- raphy shop, tinting pictures. Hellen Mitchell, Mary Courtney and Patty Rogers are all living in Tacoma. Bob Locke is a famous lawyer in Timbuctoo. Netty Fossett is happily married and living in Shangralila. We heard that Jim Shore has made several trips to the moon and back in his new kind of jet plane. Norma Erickson and Luana Jacobsen are in the entertainment world twirling their way to fame. Dorothy Franklin went to the State University and graduated with high honor. Ronnie Cooper, the great playboy, is making his business in California. Betty Lohff has returned to Wisconsin where she has the world's famous dude ranch. Shirley Hale has invented a new solution for the skin. She calls it Miss Hale's New De-freckler Solution. Ruth Johnson won the Miss America title a few years after she graduated. Darlene Spoons is a house- wife and has two children, but I can't remember where she lives because the alarm went off. I hope to receive a reply to this letter. Very truly yours, Darlene Rambo The records show the answer of the above: Dear Darlene, Your room is paid for. Come at once. Sincerely yours, Patt Judd, Head Dietitian Aix ,- If ' ' lla 5 XA -L l X f tx' - RX 5 Xp, L it T' T ill , s 1, ' or 1, f W w L- B VII ,,, .Nu X , Y 4 1 cgi - f f Twelve years ago last fall, five members of the class of '50 presented themselves at the door of the Onalaska Grade School to begin their careers in Readin', 'Ritin', and 'Rithmetic . These members were Ruth Johnson, Patty Judd, Darlene Spoons, Patty Rogers and Jim Shore. Others who entered at that time have moved away or left school for other reasons. During the years which followed, additions to the class were made from various other schools, and at the beginning of their seventh school year, Onalaska District 14229 was consolidated with outlying areas, and a much larger group occupied the seventh grade room under the supervision of Mrs. Inez Duncan, and when the class started as eager freshmen, they numbered forty-three. The main event of the freshmen year was initiation into high school by the sopho- mores, and the next year we, in turn, helped a greener f'bunch over the threshold into the mysteries of higher education. The junior year was marked by the production of the Junior play - The Whole Tovm's Talking , and the Junior-Senior picnic held at Offut Lake. The Juniors took over the candy sales when the Seniors left on their annual trip to British Columbia, and they were well launched on their Senior Program by the time fall came and the class was actually on the last lap of high school career. We had lost and regained some members. The new ones of this year were: Shirley Hale and Darlene Martin. Students who have been with us during our three previous years were: Waldamae Bender, Joyce and Joan Crawford, Sylvia Miller, Helen Thormahlen, Laura and Flora Nichols, Helen Dixon, Barbara Daniels, Jeanne Harris, Helen Jacobsen, Duveen Noble, Colleen Proteau, Keith and Robert Skinner, Gerald Turner, Mona White, Marjorie Wright, Leona Webb, and John Shepherd, Dick Schroeder, Dorothea Bowden, Lorraine and Viola Ralph. The main events were: Senior trip to Canada, Senior Ball a.nd Senior Play. The Officers for this year were: President .T ack Rice, Vice President, Howard Kalnoskig Secretary, Darlene Spoons, Treasurer, Ruth Johnson, Sargeant-at-Arms, Darrell Burden. Q f r 45? MQ! During the first Semester, under the supervision of Mrs. Seidlitz and Mrs. Kelly, the boys became familiar with methods of food preservation and studied nutrition and health. Simple meals were prepared, and the girls are sure the boys each gained several pounds from sampling the cookies, biscuits and pies they made. In February, Mrs. Kelly started the boys on units in consumer buying, marketing, and insurance and later in the spring there were units on social customs, clothing, good grooming, and family relations. It is our opinion that the boy and man have much responsibility in making the home and family life successful, and the varied course offered should help them to be prepared to meet life. 7 The 1949 football season started out rather slowly for Onalaska, as the Loggers lost the first game of the season to Randle, by a score of 12-7. Things started to look brighter, however, as the Loggers dumped Pe Ell 6-0. The Onalaska eleven then seemed to meet tougher competition, for they lost the next four games, but the Loggers bounced back to whip State School, 38-0 and to defeat Mossyrock, the league co-champions, 7-6. The team and school had the honor of having three of their players chosen for the. All Conference team. They were Cliff Johnson, Darrell Burden, and Howard Kalnoski. The season line -up was: L.E.-J. Forty-five members were high school students and full credit was given for the course. Some of the public appearances the band made were: The John Arnold Grange, Forest Grangeg The Basket Fillers at the Elks Lodge in Chehalis, Home football and basketball games, Winter and Spring Concerts, Solo and Ensemble Festival, Massed band concerts at Winlock and Mortong Spring Festival at Olympia and Band Clinic, sponsored by the Centralia Junior College to help the student know his instrument. Experts in the field of music help theparticipant during the day and the massed band in the concert given that evening. The clinic band is selected from the list of names the director sends in. They not only select the best players, but also try to see that each school is represented fairly according to the size and experience of the band. This year the clinic was post- poned two months because of the snow storm in January. GIRLS GLEE CLUB The chorus, under the direction of Elmer W. Ross, consisted of forty girls, who have made several public appearances during the school year. They were called upon to sing for several special occasions, including service in the Methodist Church in Chehalis, Vhnter Concert, Presbyterian Women's Association and the Spring Concert. HONOR SOCIETY Although the Honor Society has not been active this year, the membership is as large large as it has been in previous years. To be eligible to wear the one bar pin during the second year a student must have earned 24 points during his first year in high school. A student in his third year must have earned 50 or more points during his first two years in school and in order to wear the torch pin during his fourth year a student must have earned eighty points by the end of his third year.
