He came to Omak in 1948 from Eastern Wash- ington College of Education where he was little All-American in basketball. ,Since that time Mr. Gablehouse's bas- ketball teams have won a sportsman- ship award and a County Champion- ship. His tennis teams won two Coun- ty Championships. This year, our third year in the Class A division, our basketball team won the North Central Washing- ton Championship, and made us known as a team not easily beaten. Coach Gablehouse has set a fine example for his team by good sports- manship, clean living and fair play. He built up an inspiration that will long be remembered by all of us. But above all else he is our friend. Senior Class Memories It was the first day of school in the year 1939. Children were bustling around getting ready for their first peek at education-little did they know what lay ahead. Year by year we contributed to society. The first year, under the instruction of Miss Rice and Miss Cordes, we constructed block cities which added to the success of the Ste- vens school carnival. In the second grade we pooled our talents to form a rhythm band. Everyone became fa- miliar with our one and only accomplishment March of the Toy Soldiers . In the third grade, after two years of worthwhile learning, Ray Houston became our favorite entertainer for the morning story hour with his fantastic tales of home life. During the fourth and fifth grades we presented It's a Grand Old Flag and The Highland Fling . Pat Stafford sent for Charles Atlas' muscle-building kit so she could beat up Gene Jackson. Shirley Smith got sick when the boys kissed the girls and this led to a half hour lecture by Miss Israel. When entering Jr. High we accepted re- sponsibilities more readily. Mastering the two-step was the great problem. 1One-two- back. Remember?J The greatest accomplish- ment was made by Boots Mercer, the day he spelled antidisestablishmentarianism -- the longest word in the dictionary. But Boots wasn't the only one who had brains. Evalyn Emert was student body president and Bob Rogers won the scholarship award. As far as good behavior is concerned, Joyce Van Brunt received the good citizenship award . Our ninth grade party was another outstanding feature with Now Is the Hour, the theme, presenting lighted candles in a wash tub of water. High School brought many experiences which were new to everyone. Several of the fellows in their Sophomore year received let- ters in football and basketball. We were proud of having Shirley Smith as one of the yell- leaders and football princess and Mary Wicks receiving the 35.00 scholastic award. We are sure everyone will remember the junior year. Suddenly It's Spring our prom theme brought us many thrills-remember the ceiling? For a while we thought it would be Suddenly It Fell. This was sponsored by the selling of pop under the supervision of Wes Marshall, class president and Mr. Oates, class adviser. The great days have arrived! We are no longer, looked down upon, we are seniors. We wish to thank the under-classmen and also the teachers who have helped us to reach our goal in such a pleasant manner. When we leave Omak High School to go forward in life as adults, we shall all remem- ber the scent of roses in the blue and silver, and the thought, Tonight we launch-where shall we anchor , as one of the important steps of 1951, as well as the many happy days we have spent there.
