A great increase in enrollment and many changes in the physical features have high- lighted the year for the R.O.T.C. department. Five companies, composed of over 260 ca- dets, have been busy painting and building in an effort to enlarge the facilities and make them available to even more boys. The entire department has been painted and knotty pine panelling has been installed in the headquarters Schroder ls Colonel At the annual Military Ball held at Peony Pa lc Don Schroder was revealed as the new lieutenant colonel commanding officer of the battalion l-le and his lady Emily Runge led the officers in a special waltz The R OTC band presented a concert before the announce ment of the promotions This year a new event was added to the social calendar of the military department ln the fall the Chevron Shuffle was pre sented n the North High gym for the purpose of handing out promotions to the non com missioned officers lt was such a uccess that it is believed the dance will become an annual affair U she rs for Shows As usual the ushers for the BEST Show Aurora and all home football games were provd d by the military departm nt Under h direction of Don Schroder the e boys per form only on of the many rnva uable but little public zed ervc s taken care of by ROTC bots The m litary polc ake on h job of afeguarding the live of th tu d nts b fore and after school There is a flag raising detail which sees that the colors are put up and taken down every school day 28 D lg ,QIfLCl 86L585 glnroffmenli 634 surged cfdcfiuilfiw ..This year's Rifle Team had a successful season, ending up in a tie for first place in first semester competition. High scorers were Richard Suddick, Don Schroder, Lloyd Burke, Jim Ryan, and Ronald Ruh. The Crack Squad again earned a spot in the Aurora this year.
