From the pit orchestra that accompanied the annual Aurora, the Aurora stage band was chosen which also supplied music tor school dances. Another event, the Spring Concert, on May 25 and 26, featured more serious symphonic works. North has one ot the very few high school orchestras with complete symphonic in- strumentation. The newest addition to the instrumental music department, this year, was the twenty- eight piece pep band which combined with the Gold Polars, forming the first band-pep squad cheering section in Omaha. These organiza- tions are all under the leadership of Samuel F. Thomas. On United Nations day they performed on the Court House lawn. The band also gave a marching band demonstration at the Ak-San Ben Rodeo and Live Stock Show last fall. During the football season, the senior band played at half-time periods. Spectators at night games saw the first band in this area perform using lighted caps and batons. On these occasions, the band was led by Drum Major Donald Chase or Majorette Barbara Boner. ln recognition of their fine work the sixty-eight band members were feted with a banquet at the Birchwood Club by North Oma- ha business men on February l5.
