Under Director Samuel F. Thomas, the tal- ents of the senior orchestra, the senior band, the ROTC band, and the dance orchestra were outstanding in all of their many performances. Decked out in their new blue and gold uni- forms, the band opened their year's activities in September by representing Omaha at the State Fair in Lincoln. Several weeks later theatres showed newsreels of the band in the Ak-Sar- Ben and South Omaha free bridge parade. Towering John Kuhn as drum major drew eyes in his new uniform and white fur drum tnajor's hat. Seventy-two band uniforms and costumes for the baton twirlers were financed by the P.-T.A. and North Omaha businessmen. Violinist Beverly Houser was chosen concert mistress for the second year at the State Music Clinic in the fall. The highest rating instru- mentalists attended the State Music Contest later at Fremont, Nebraska. Beverly was also chosen concert mistress of the All-City High School Symphony and elected its president. The ROTC band opened the thirteenth an- nual military ball with a thirty minute pro- gram. Their other performance was reviewed at Federal inspection this spring. The sweet strains of North's dance band were heard at several school dances in the gym. Their noteworthy showings in the Aurora and the Best Show were fine examples of what can be done by young musicians. Football games, the senior play, and the Christmas concerts were augmented by the se- lections of the band and orchestra.
