Steve Carhart gave intriguing announcements and carried on programs to boost student involvement in sports. Rob Parrish weigh- ed discussion against the thinking of the Senate: and writing notes, letters and reminders kept Ruth Lybbert busy as Kim Zimmerman tracked down missing pur- chase orders and pennies to balance the budget, and Nikki Riddle went through reams of paper, producing surveys, eval- uations and letters. Senate Senators campaigned on platforms ranging from women's lib to student rights. Meeting each day fifth period, they dealt with legislation on GPA re- quirements for student elections, pro- visions for yearly revision and publication of the constitution, education of sopho- mores to student government, and appoint- ment of studentbody vice president as liaison between government and the studentbody. Although getting everybody together at the same time was dif- ficult. the committee managed to plan an exceptional homecoming for 1973. According to Mark Johnson, homecoming chairman, coop- eration among the members of the Homecoming Committee was excellent. The variety of ac- tivities emphasized the aura of a traditional homecoming, at Olympus High School. HOMECOMING COMMITTEE - Row one: Co-Chairman, Martha Owens: Karen Fisher. Diann Pap. Olympus held stomps. The first was the Halloween Hop. and it had teen-angels and bobby-soxers. Ruth Lybbert and Brian Brimhall won prizes for best costumes and at inter- mission a ioyous noise was made when the Skyline rock was brought to Oly and presented by football coach Wayne Startin. Teachers wheeled video-tape units through halls, nodded on field trip buses, made treks to the media center, helped students by National Merit tutoring or overhauling engines. Students found zero period, half-day work releases, merchandising courses, career planning and even watch- ing TV as homework. Amid the ferment of chairless mobile classrooms, traveling teachers and a new furnace to be sub- dued to the energy crisis, there were, of course, sometimes bells, books, lectures and questions at the end of the chapter. 103 Academic Overview A ru A j (X. The prin- cipals at Olympus are concerned with all aspects of student life, student activities, and student problems. They have to watch over the budgets of departments, and set up curriculum standards. Although they must sometimes take punitive actions, they still try to do their best for the school, and try to remain open minded. They primed themselves for the B.Y.U. Invitational and the regional meet. The state meet was held at the end of the year at the U of U. The twelve member golf team was coached by Ken Farrell and captained by Steve Fryer. They had dual matches, sometimes with two a week. The golf team competed in the B.Y.U. These sport events included swimming, track and field, and gymnastics. Each week they played bas- ketball and softball on a home to home basis with different schools in the area. The girls took first place in tennis, first place in bowling, and second place in the volleyball tournaments. Registration And Report Cards Counting out money for fees and yearbooks, new and returning students anxiously stood in long lines. Regis- tration presented problems: not being on any list, and not being able to find classes. In the confusion of lockers, students couldn't find the locations or figure out combinations. When report cards came out. cries of happiness and despair were heard throughout the halls. The impact of re- port cards was shown on students by questions such as What did you get? Are you sure? and What are you going to tell your parents? 168 Sheila Barton Kathy Bliss Heidi Boro Anita Carter Mary Kaye Christensen Cindy Edwards Susan Emery Dona Evans Paula Fowler Melinda Jensen Cheryl Larsen Pam Lilischkis Patrice Madson Helen Marshall Annette Morrison Camille Nielson Sally Olson Anna J. Editor hi It is not growing like a tree In bulk, doth make man better be; Or standing long an oak, three hundred year, To fall a log at last, dry, bald, and sere: A lily of a day Is fairer far in May, Although it fall and die that night; It was the plant and flower of light. In small proportions we just beauties see; And in short measures, life may perfect be. — Ben lonson In memory of Gil Madson class of 1974 Richard Tingey class of 1973 221 Index Aagard, Alice 49,187 Abersold, Tammy 49,200,203 Adama, Ann 33 Adams, Ellen 33,172 Adams, Harold 33, 159, 204 Adams, Kathy 17,199 Adams, Nanette 33 Adams, Wendy 49,75 Ahlstrom, Bruce 49,126, 204 Aiken, Greg 17,139 Akre, John 33 Alder, Nancy 17 Allen, Debbie 33 Allen, Don 113 Allen, Francie 49, 185,187 Alley, Charles 33,143 Alley, Laurel 49 Alley, Pierre 49,150,181, 183, 184 Allred, David 17,22,20 Allred, Joyce 49 Al Ired, Julie 200 Allred, Richard 11 ,210 Allred, Rochelle 33 Allred, Teresa 17, 00 AlmstedL Ker istedL.
