Assemblies Some interesting breaks from the reg- ular schedule were provided for the studentbody in the form of assem- blies. Spanning from jazz to ballet, assemblies offered a wide variety of entertainment to students. Some high- lights of this year's assemblies were Spoon River Anthology, Camelot, and Ballet West. Kinds of Time was the theme of the senior prom. Casually clad, students found the cafeteria dec- orated to represent various eras of human history, from the time of cave men to the present. Refreshments were served in an old west saloon. Grace and beauty are shown by Ballet West. Election assemblies bring excitement. Singing adds entertainment to assembly. Olympus' annual girls' association fa- thers' and daughters' night was en- titled My Guy this year. The eve- ning began with a catered dinner and then OGA officers presented a small program for the fathers and daugh- ters. Following this program, girls and their guys danced to Olympus' stage band, while prizes were awarded for the most talented dancing couples. Olga introduces her groovy dad. The class was also lead by bubbly, interested Holly Mullen and energetic, original Kristy Ball as class coordinators. Trying to COPE with being lost in the halls, swamped with tests and other adjustment blues, the sophomore class was in luck to have such leaders to come to their aid. The Sophomore Assembly, Sophomore Stomp, and a raffle were some of the activities the sophomore officers sponsored to help out. Glenn, Holly, and Kristy urged the class of '75 to play an active part in school affairs and to not let sopho- mores go unnoticed. Their goal was total involvement and to show that sophomores are important. fgg,f?t.,1? eg? lead Sophomore Class Officers Holly Mullen Glenn Romney Kristy Ball Coordinator President Coordinator Ann Adams Ellen Adams Harold Adams Nanette Adams ' f Sophomores i we HJ I t , u f 'ff ff ,. dmmm , wWl4t,,1tfff 9 W f r, 4 ff? f' it ff ,,i' , ,,.,, V , Amm mmmm ' , 3, 23' ff' if , f -if f ' l J W 1 T JZVTVTN-?4r ,W .,p, 'W t., , W Hi af if , ' ww , - c .P 'YV ,if .st ,Z Z Z , I v I 3 M?Z9'3,in ,,i','9Wa '. Ef- ficient, caring Mark Johnson headed the junior class this year. Artistic, gen- tle Linda Harrison and hard-working, enthusiastic Cathie Hanes aided Mark as his class coordinators. To help jun- iors through National Merit Shivers and claustrophobia resulting from the crowded hallways, the junior class of- ficers sponsored varied activities such as the Pumpkin Sculpture, Junior Class Assembly, and the Junior Prom. With the guidance of the anti-apathy league, the class of '74 played an active part in directing the activities of this past year. Indeed the junior class was headed by officers that took their responsibilities seriously and were happy to give an all-out effort to do a good job. 52 junior Class Officers Cathie Hanes Mark Johnson Linda Harrison Coordinator President Coordinator rr f , -yyy ,zy ,W f f f '15, f , ,rv Alice Aagard ff Tammy Abersold aiixssarsazi. Senate Olympus High's senate played a very active part in influencing school af- fairs this year. Reporting to each fifth period class in the school at two week intervals, senators informed each student and teacher of coming events and activities and tried to en- courage wider participation in the governmental affairs of the school. When not busy with classes, senators battled with problems such as over- crowded lunches, curriculum changes, school finances, and tried to correct them. The senate also sponsored in- formative student forums. Cheerleaders Facing scant crowds and student dis- interest, our junior varsity cheerlead- ers worked hard to encourage Olym- pus's teams of tomorrow. With Chris Laub as head cheerleader and Barbie Brown as his assistant, Mar- jorie lvlarshall, Patti Johnson, Debbie Webb and Mike Woodruff were no- torious for their J.V. Game Today posters. Helping the varsity cheer- leaders out, learning new cheers as well as traditional ones, and never missing a J. V. game kept them pretty busy. Creating their own movements to cheers and trying to encourage bet- ter student turn-out at the games were also part of their task. 96 Coordinating and Honor Councils Jin COORDINATING COUNCIL - ROW ONE: V. Selecting teacher and student of the month was just one of the jobs of this august body. Principal Dr. Larsen makes his position a twen- ty-four-hour-a-day job. Concerned with all aspects of school life, from lunch- room litter problems to budgets in the respective departments, he still finds time to be interested with the individual student. Especially notable this year were his increased efforts at direct communication with the stu- dent body, to explain procedures and increase understanding. We Counselors A vital guiding light to the school, this year's counselors worked to en- courage the discouraged, provide guidance for the undecided, and gen- erally help students to COPE with problems that came up during the school year. The hearty band of counselors were busy adjusting schedules, unknotting baffled parents, and lending a friendly ear. Another of their tasks was to orient students to changes in school procedures. Vo- cational and educational guidance were readily available through the Career Occupational Planning Expe- rience, known as the COPE program, now in its second year at Olympus. Hopefully, Odyssey '73 is an historical replica of the Olympus High 1972- 1973 school year. An expression of gratitude is due to Don Blair and Borge Andersen for their photographic efforts and achieve- mentsg to Peggy Quist and the problems that she faced after each section was handed in ilatelg to each staff member who contributed in his own 'personal' fashiong and a titanic thank you to John Shewell for his infinite knowledge and contribution to the mechanics of Odyssey '73.
