Nona Larsen William Monroe Jean Porter Marilyn Peterson Stuart Manookin Glen Motzkus SPECIAL ED, AV, LIBRARY The departments of special education, audio-visual, and library all helped in serv- ing important needs of the students and faculty. The library was always full, either with people looking for material or taking advantage of the only quiet place in the school. The A.V. center found little relief from the constant schedule of handling films, printing handouts and making morn- ing announcements. The teachers of spe- cial education helped those students who needed help. 23

Running laps, playing football, running laps, play- ing soccer, running laps. Then it got cold and you thought you had it made, only to find out you had to run around the gym. -Driver’s Education got their supply of slight- ly scared sophomores and over-anxious juniors again this year. But each was given a chance to show why he needed the class while practicing on the range, in the simu- lator. and on the road. Stop! -The Air Force R.O.T.C. made their appear- ance at Olympus this year. Within a month, the student body got used to the idea of seeing uniforms every Wednesday, and the few shallow complaints quickly vanished as ROTC began its initial year. NEW ACADEMICS The relaxed learning situation wasn’t the only innovation in Olympus’ halls. Many new classes and curriculum changes en- hanced the models of teaching and learning. Semester history and English classes were introduced, making it possible for the stu- dent to be a little more selective in what he wished to study. New resource centers aid- ed the students in individual study projects and provided a quiet place to study when the library was full. R.O.T.C. was reintroduced after an absence of six years. These adop- tions. along with an already outstanding academic program, produced a year of in- novation at Olympus. 24
