Fun In The Sun For those of us hopeless individuals who chose to let our minds vegetate for three absolutely glorious months, the arrival of that little letter addressed, To the Parent or Guardian of . . . was a very rude awakening, I do not know what you think, but I have come to the conclusion that the thought of school ruined the summer. Just think about it. I do not know if I could handle not watching my soap operas. And summer just would not have been summer without the lake. After all, where else could you find so many people wearing so little? However, as exciting as the lake may have been, I thought the ultimate summer spot was Lakefair. The people, the parade and the activities combined to make it the social event of the summer. Although I vowed never to ride the Zipper again, I found myself magnetically drawn to the mass of bodies waiting in line. My hands clenched and my stomach churned in anticipation Cand terrorb because it was the same. I went on the ride, I got off, and then I threw up. Ah, the joys of summer . . . And then, the letter came. It effectively signaled the start of another school year and reminded me that summer would not last forever. Once again, con- tinual cramming, cafeteria food CCan you believe some people actually like it?J and those fun-filled, three-day vacations with Mr. Maguire would become the accepted way of life. In many thoughts of school were like the Zipper: alot of needless and unneces- sary anxiety created by the individual. Amusing Ourselves Few complaints were heard about how boring Olympia was, because there were plenty of great places to go. No longer were the prospects for a good time limited to movies and doing the mall. More than ever be- fore, Olympia emerged as a city with something for everyone. Downtown Olympia developed a nightlife all its own with many people frequenting Crackers, the Midnight Movie, and the Surf Club. For those who liked a more phys- ical activity and competition in their recreation, Putt-Putt Golf, Go-Karts, and Tumwater Valley were favorites. lf you wanted a classier evening, the Washington Center for the Perform- ing Arts was a great place to be for an evening of culture. Study groups were also an interesting develope- ment in the nightlife of Olympia High students. The library took sec- ond to the Bayview Market Deli, where munchies were close at hand to sustain students through the rig- ors of calculus. So whenever you think, There's nothing to do take a second look at what Olympia has to offer. You may be surprised. l rv 'rx ill She's wild about Disney Characters, explains Leif Olson. ,s S ' f H163 iyl 15.4 Michell Connor and Angle Fitzmorris are just singing in the rain Sara Marr reflects on life in the fast Iane at the Surf Club.
