Behind the Scenes at Homecoming Left, right foot, then right, left, right: that's it. The princesses and escorts heard these words in early morning practices the week before the traditional Homecoming assembly. Court members diligently attempted to master that old-time favorite, the waltz. On Friday while the student body anxiously waited for sixth period to end to go to the assembly, court members frantically prepared for their debut. Cries of Where is my curling iron? or What happened to my shoes? echoed throughout the locker rooms. Excitement filled the air. Then, with lights dimmed slightly, the Strolling Strings played softly as Christine Nelson announced each of the princesses and her escort. After strolling out in their long gowns and tuxedoes and parading the make-believe ballroom, the couples nervously demonstrated their much-practiced waltzing. After the court was seated, everyone was entertained by class skits ranging from the Oly, Oly, song by freshmen to the senior's PeeWee Herman. The Good Days sang The Boy From Oly to the senior football players. Even a group of senior boys demonstrated their singing and dancing skills. Friday evening tension was high. The court arrived at Ingersoll Stadium for the halftime activities. Cars ranging from a pink Chevrolet to a grey Rolls Royce whisked them to the field. All eyes focused on them as fans won- dered who would be queen. Suddenly fire- works lighted-Leah Plumer, 1985 Home- coming Queen. f 9 .
