Amusing Ourselves Few complaints were heard about how boring Olympia was, because there were plenty of great places to go. No longer were the prospects for a good time limited to movies and doing the mall. More than ever be- fore, Olympia emerged as a city with something for everyone. Downtown Olympia developed a nightlife all its own with many people frequenting Crackers, the Midnight Movie, and the Surf Club. For those who liked a more phys- ical activity and competition in their recreation, Putt-Putt Golf, Go-Karts, and Tumwater Valley were favorites. lf you wanted a classier evening, the Washington Center for the Perform- ing Arts was a great place to be for an evening of culture. Study groups were also an interesting develope- ment in the nightlife of Olympia High students. The library took sec- ond to the Bayview Market Deli, where munchies were close at hand to sustain students through the rig- ors of calculus. So whenever you think, There's nothing to do take a second look at what Olympia has to offer. You may be surprised. l rv 'rx ill She's wild about Disney Characters, explains Leif Olson. ,s S ' f H163 iyl 15.4 Michell Connor and Angle Fitzmorris are just singing in the rain Sara Marr reflects on life in the fast Iane at the Surf Club.

A LOOK AROUND Was it really 1986? After a look around campus, a person might have thought time had gone backwards. Flapper skirts of the twenties to paisley prints of the sixties were visible. Students kept glancing over their shoulders for Michael J. Fox. Eddie Haskell look-alikes could be seen carrying Madonna-wanna-be's' books. Anyone looking at the parking lots would have thought they were quiet and boring. Not so. The rock was often being repainted blue and white, replacing the helpfulness of rivals. Music students and parents could be seen heaving bundles of newspapers into the filling truck and washing cars in out-of-season attire. After school, buses formed a wall between exhausted stu- dents, waiting pals, and parents. Drivers who converted it into angular parking were confronted with little red stickers from Mr. Maguire's patrol. Good morning everyone! lt's a Fri . . . Oh, I guess it is just Thursday. Ho-him, another day. Any persons who had never listened to announcements before might have heard these statements and thought they had walked into the morning zoo of KQ92. Mark Carlson, a part-time deejay, took over the morning announcing and lightened up each day's beginning. Students believed things changed throughout the year, but a look back in time revealed history was re- peating itself.
