Today, 60 years later, it is sophisticated and artistic, providing Olympia's students with a prized visual record of their high school years. Not only is 1984 the 60th anniversary of the OLYMPIAD, but it is also the 60th anniversary of TIME magazine. Consequently, we felt it fitting to construct an annual with both a vivid photographic format and TlME's journalistic style. Using the journalist's pen to complement our photo-story, we hope to preserve today's moments for a future when memories have dimmed. Coeedilors Laurie Wieland and lill Lindberg, teamed with staff members, found compiling this annual a challenging task. Trying to select the most representative photographs and making sure all events were covered often caused headaches for photographers Stephanie Hensley and Brent Hermanson who, helped by others, met stalfer's demands. Another major challenge was the finding of just the right bear logo for the cover. For this, we looked to talented senior artist Kelly Curtis, who had recently designed the insignia for the U.S.S. GLYMPIA. We were not disappointed. Kelly presented us with a sketch that exactly fit our TIME theme. Together, we have tried to use words and photos to recap the year's activities in a way that will make this year's OLYMPIAD timeless, a record not just of this year, but one that will be just as alive a year from now - or ten years or even sixty years.
