At the beginning of the second semester, new senators were elected to continue the programs begun by the first semester representatives and ex-officio members. Chosen to chairman committees were Pat Finley, Welfarep Bud lohnson, Building and Equipment committeeg lerry Gamer, Bules committeey and Sally lo Hinkle, Standards and Elections committee. OHS's student government begins to operate even prior to the beginning of the school year with New Students' day, which is usually held a week before the opening of school in the fall. Following this day of orientation for students new to the high school, locker issuance is carried out by ASB officers and committees. During the year, any problem that the students, faculty, or administration feel suitable is introduced to the senate. Lillibridge, Nielsen, Dean. Members cf the Finance committee pictured above right are: Hunt Stackhouse, Hansen, Vfinslow. Action, following strict parliamentary procedure, is taken. The problem may be referred to the standing committees, or to a special committee to study the situation, or a ruling may be enacted. Principal W. l. Matters advises all ASB actions. Outstanding students are elected through the senate to attend leaders' conferences and visitations to other schools to learn more about government in practice. The Assembly committee plans and provides for numerous entertaining and educational assemblies throughout the year. Functioning also under the auspices of the Associf ated Student Body is the Social committee, which is responsible for the organizing and decoraling of the four Allehigh dances. Under the guidance of the faculty, Ol-lS students be- come self-directing and gain valuable experience from the system of student government. IE DI G CITIZENS Heading all student activities is the student gov' ernment system. Guided by Gerry Alexander, presi- dentq Sam Farrington, vice presidentg Ioe Isaacson, secretaryg lnez Winslow, treasurer: Bob Dean, yell king and other members ot the executive committee, the Senate is the legislative body of the Associated Studnt Body ot Olympia high school. Each home room has one or more representatives who meet at least twice a month. Through this organization, every student has a voice in procedures relating to the high school. Another tunction of the Senate is to appoint var- ious standing committees to serve tor each semester or tor the entire year.
