flfh DE. ww ' 'S chaff Wai? ll I D ll Saga NNOBLED of spirit by the occasion, they'll walk down the aisles of the audit- orium the night of May 29 with palpitating hearts and with teardrops moisten- ing their eyes-eyes many of which will never gaze on the old familiar sights again. Some of the boys will soon be wearing khaki, and many of the girls will be engaged in war work, and when the present conflict is over-who knows when ?-it will be the job of the grads of '42 to bend their energies and talents toward the building of a new order. But the haughty seniors who march this graduation day from the Olym- pia halls of learning were not always so proud. Entering as green freshmen in awe of their superiors, the class of '42 put the first feather in their cap by instituting class yells during assembly. Though the shelf dwellers are us- ually considered shy, this class made a name for themselves by their first assembly, which had a western setting. Officers for the first year were Bud Mowell, president, Bob Eitreim, vice president, Sallie Ful- lerton, secretary-treasurer, Dale Hume, yell leader, Kenny Peters and Tim Randall, Boys club re- presentatives. Miss Grayce Rotman, now Mrs. Morrie Gumbert, and M. W. McLeod served as class advisers. Although it was hindered by an earthquake and a flu epidemic, their sophomore class as- sembly, dealing with the life of Henry Aldrich, proved an outstanding attraction. Bob Flem and Fred Keeton were class presidents first and second semester, respectively. Other officers first and second semester were: Jeff Collins and Kenny Peters, vice presidents, Normajeanne Zintheo and Pat Sullivan, secretaries, Dale Hume and Tim Randall, yell leaders, Lou Ann Schilling and Mary Jeanne Norris, Girls club representatives, Lucy Jean Boone and Sylvia Gil- filen, executive council representatives, Ward Rackey and Wes Horton, first semester, and Bob Flem, second semester, Boys club representatives. June Mad, a humorous story of a young g1rl's first love, was the junior play. Elverna Amund- sen and Dottie Mangan were cochairmen. The prom, the theme of which was the Annapolis sweet- heart ball, proved one of the best in the history of O.H.S. A cabaret was held in the cafeteria after the dancing, and breakfast was served. General chairmen for the prom were Pat Sullivan and Virginia Mekkes. Class sweaters for the year were navy blue and White. A fantastical assembly was staged Friday of junior week, with Barbara Lewis chairman. Activities Monday included the Junior Jamboree edition of The Olympus, edited by Bob Eitreim, and the crowning of the supreme rulers for the week-Normajeanne Zintheo and Art McCarty. Hello Walk observance, lunchtime programs in the cafeteria, the playing of a special pep band in the halls, and the taking over of classes by third-yearers featured Wednesday's program. The jubi- lant juniors wore class colors and took over student control Thursday. Junior week chairmen were Normajeanne Zintheo and Lou Ann Schilling. Junior class officers: first semester-Bob Flem, president, Mel Drescher, vice president, Sylvia Gilfilen, secretary, Dale Hume, yell leader, Ward Rockey and Joe Preston, Boys club representatives, second semester: Bob Eitreim, president, Nor- majeanne Zintheo, secretary, Johnny Hamilton, yell leader, John Mowell and Bill Twohy, Boys club representatives.
