PHILIP DEHNICK, Department Head. SARA JOFFE l MARGARET BANES ELLA PATTON EANGLISH 5-gps Once upon a time, when us students come inta this here school and begun them English class, we couldn't spel or nu- thin'! Them teachers sure did put us threw alot. There we were, stranded for years in a desert of sand-covered adjectives, dried skulls-ours, before a test - and thoughts that bumped around like tumbleweeds. Nlonstrous, evil-looking sen- tences reached out their clause at us. Dictionaries ot diction were crammed into our heads. Vocab- ulary lists made us listlessi look- ing up and down and sideways on 1 4 X xt crossword puzzles crossed our eyes, and the work we had to do with synonyms - it was a sin! Nominatives were a real case, too. Two B's or C or D - that was ourquestionl. Now the days of splitting our heads over infinitives and dan- gling trom participles are over. We're real pros with pronouns and are reknowned for our suc- cess with nouns! ln the process of learning, we almost murdered the grace Us there any?j of the English language. Thank you, teachers!
