Walter N, Nackoney Thomas G. Lynch, Ill ff To the Class of 1975: In 1963, the American Mount Everest Expedition attained its objective on May lst when Na- wang Gombu and Jim Whittaker reached the snowy summit of Everest at 1 P.lVl. by way of the South Col route. The final stages of the great adventure had ac- tually begun on February 13 with the expedition's arrival at Kat- mandu. This represented six weeks of time to finally get into position and into physical shape for their attempt to reach the higher ground. And all this su- perhuman effort was in the spirit of great adventure. If Noah in the urgency for sur- vival had not had the Ark on which to depend, his reach for the higher ground probably would have matched the epic ef- forts of modern mountaineers. Then, there is the other kind of striving which Dag Hammer- skjold defined as, Never let suc- cess hide its emptiness from you, achievement its nothingness, toil its desolation. And so keep alive the incentive to push on further, that pain in the soul which drives us beyond ourselves. Whether a reach for the higher ground is a matter of high adven- ture or sheer survival or a matter of personal achievement, may your reach in life as a member of the June '75 Class be a high one and a good one! Sincerely, Walter N. Nackoney Vice-Principal To the Class of 1975: Whatever your future may be, l hope you will be both happy and successful, and that you will find great satisfaction in your life's work. I also hope you have many happy recollections of your days at Olney. I urge you to consider serious- ly the matter of further education and that you explore all possible means of continuing your stud- ies. Sincerely, Thomas G. Lynch lll Vice-Principal

To the Class of 1975: Graduating classes, all of them bright-eyed and hopeful of the future, have come and gone, and, I suppose that many words of advice to graduating seniors have been written countless times. Yet, hackneyed or hollow, such words are meant to convey the sincere concerns all of us feel for you who are leaving us. A theme such as Reach the Higher Ground seems to em- body all ofthe Go-Forth-lnto-The- World messages ofthe past with a wisdom that is ageless and fer- vent. It suggests a rejection of the shabby and meaningless. lt re- flects a desire to attain what is real and true. lt is the highest goal which you can set for your- self and, as such, it becomes the best advice anyone can give you. Now, as you enter a new phase of life, it is essential to put away the common trivial wants and aim for those goals which will make your life meaningful. It is by no means unreasonable to believe in dreams for they are, in a sense, the Higher Ground. Therefore, set your goals and go forth with a new strength and vigor rememberingthat the sky is always the limit. Sincerely, Michael DiGiamomo Vice-Principal VICE-PRINCIPALS Sv l l 'YL i 11:2 GX . is N15 fifvfgfitrsl of :f . - -' 1 Y ki. ' A 1 r '!,?'e-lint. Y L i fu: 1 X' Michael DiGiacomo
