ASSISTANTS TO THE PRINCIPAL In this, our yearbook, we, the Class of Iune 1950, would like to express our appreciation to Mrs. Fink and Dr. Green- wood for the understanding they have extended to us. Their sincerity, and invaluable advice have often brought us to the solution of a problem. To their encouragement and sensible suggestion we owe many of the good times We have had at Olney. Dr. Greenwood's humour, Mrs. Fink's smile and genial hello have made each morning more pleasant and furnished the good start each day. We thank these two friends and are well aware of the part they played in preparing us for the years to come. 13

CUR PRINCIPAL The American mood of 1900 was one of individual self-reliance and frugality. The frontier had disappeared but the pioneer spirit of virile crea- tiveness lingered on. Freedom to think, to act, to contrive his own security was the prevailing impulse of American youth. Like old furniture, horse-cars and celluloid collars, initiative in 1950 seems to have worn out, the need to struggle has been reduced by a thousand inventions. Individual enterprise has shifted to mass effort, and independence seems losing out to social dependency. As you receive congratulations at graduation, and thrust open the gateway to a new life, I hope your path ahead will point upward, and require sturdy climbing. Let pride in your heritage bring resolution to find again that declining pioneer impulse of the past five decades, that your life may be one ot creative usefulness to all Good luck, and God bless you. 1 12
