ill ll ll ll Sl T IS with deep appreciation of her indefati- gable efforts that we, the class of lune, l93'7, dedicate our record book to Miss Ellen Yoder, our librarian. Our school has been singularly fortunate in possessing one of the finest high school libraries in the city, and no less fortu- nate in having so competent a person as Miss Yoder for our librarian. The smooth and effi- cient manner in which the library has func- tioned under Miss Yoder's guidance has long been a matter of pride to Olney students and has often been commended by visitors to our school. We realize the many difficulties of Miss Yoder's position. Hers has been the task of ministering to the literary likes and dislikes not merely of a class of fifty students, but rather of a student body of over five thousand individuals: and yet, reviewing the many happy hours we have spent in the library, we cannot recall an instance of Miss Yoder's fail- ing to satisfy a student in his search for pleasure in books, nor can we remember a pupil who has not respected her the more for her sound judgment. lt has been in the library, under the influence of Miss Yoder, that our friendship with books has been fostered, and that we have realized the part literature must play in our lives. Sensible of our indebtedness to Miss Yoder for all that she has contributed to our literary background, we sincerely hope that this volume may be a source of pleasure to her in years to come. I

PREFACE IN attempting to face squarely the problems of this world as graduates of high school, we fully realize the many trials and tribulations for which we must prepare ourselves. Cognizant, as we are, of the vicissitudes of life, we naturally do not fear the times when we shall be riding on the crest of the wave, but we are apprehensive of the times when we shall be struggling in the trough of that wave swelling omi- nously about us and threatening to en- gulf us at any moment. It is then, when the tide of life seems at its lowest ebb, that one must find some source of com- fort. We feel sure that this source of comfort, to which we shall invariably turn, is literature. ln selecting literature as the theme of our record book, we, the class of Iune, 1937, are anticipating the part books will play later in our lives, not only when unfortunate cir- cumstances compel us to seek solace within their covers but also when we venture into its confines bent on pleas- ure at times when fortune has smiled upon us. Our interests in literature have been carefully nurtured at Olney, and it is certain they will stand us in good stead. ln compiling this volume the Trojan editors have allowed liter- ature to permeate naturally all parts of this book, just as literature permeates naturally all walks of life.
