Bette Ulricz. sang corriztif-rcrrls during statgon breaksl Back stage Bette told us that we could find some rndre of our old classmates in California. We arrrved safely in Los Angeles but we no sooner got there when our car broke down iaganl, so we took it to a large modern garage. My gosh, there was Sandy Traver following in her mothers footsteps. She gave us three tickets to a Los Angeles Rains football game. We arrived in time to see their cheerleader go through some intricate maneuvers. We found out later that it was Larry Screptock. Our car was perking again so we set off for Hollywood to see a movie filmed. On the set we saw Francis Rau. No, hes not a star but a very capable lighting technician. Traveling was getting in our blood so we bought tickets on a boat sailing for Hawaii. We all got seasick and the captain lwe forgot to tell you, it was Dick Collettl came down to comfort us. Hawaii was wonderfull lt was there we met Shari Weiland who was mak ing preparations to open anotner market to add to her chain in the states On to England and the great institution of learning to see our good friend lim Wheeler now a professor of Engineering at Oxford University You might know that lim would do well and we were proud of him We couldn t pass by Paris because we wanted to see a very famous model for laques Eath lt was none other than ludy Haehl She made a very lovely model On her day off she took us to the studio of Nanette Barteau Callas Ruby Baumgartnerl who was now a famous artist How could she miss with her ability and a name so fancy? They told us that the last they had heard Robert Baker was in China so to China we went When we found him he told us that a missionary s work was hard but he liked it and was happy He also told us that he had been corresponding with loan Saunders who was in Africa We were puzzled as to what she might be doing there so we went to find out Of all the people we had met so far l think she has the most unusual rob Tcaching the headhunters how to bowl Ughll One last person to look up and that was Mayford Grant Was he hard to find' Wc finally found loim in B azil He was an Overseer on a coffee plantation We will look you all up again sometime but for now we re going home to res Eileen Leila and Luette Class IVUII e l enior class of l95o as a wnol w 1 our c oic s ats tn t Q au 1 and our ab lity to sneak in tr e lunc i l rt Tot S i r s our ab to g t along wit r t e tea ers and stay out of rcubl To tne coming Frcs im n our our tn ss in alls ard our abil ty to sk o rool 1 I - , . 1 . . '3 sv ' ' o,., 'I 7 1 -2 i L' O Teachers, parents, and friends, During these past twelve years, we, the graduating class of nineteen hundred and fifty-three, have received our formal educa- tion. Education, by definition, is the act or art of developing and cultivating the various physical, intellectual, aesthetic, and moral faculties. This education means much more to us than we can realize. Among the major values of education are: preparation for an occupation, wisdom de- rived from knowledge, and the ability to think and decide. Some would consider preparation for an occupation the greatest advantage of school training. In this day a desirable job is hardly to be found that does not require a high school diploma. Men of much knowledge and skill are necessary to keep the machin- ery of this nation moving. Starr Lumber G Coal Company 1701-13 Starr Ave. Toledo, 5, Ohio TA 4696 Va leclictorian IAMES WHEELER Through education we gain knowledge, and knowledge is a door to wisdom. By studying the problems of former times, the courses that were taken, and their outcome, we may have developed some inborn com- mon sense, which is so necessary for the leading of a successful life. What a big thought it is to realize that the destiny of our lives lie entirely in our own hands. We will have to think, decide, and act on our decisions. The better we are able to do this, the bigger the opportunity we shall have for a profitable life. Education means much more to us than remembering a few facts from a school book: it has instilled in our minds a broader outlook on life, influenced by the teachings of great men and events. Parents, teachers, members of the Board of Education, we realize that it is only through your efforts that this graduation tonight is possible, and we thank you. We are sad to leave the school in which we have had such happiness these last twelve years. We do not like the thought of separating from our close friends and loyal teachers, but the pleasant memories of our school days will remain with us always. Tonight, we, the graduating class of '53, will separate. It is my earnest prayer that God will guide the lives of each one of us, and that we shall live in love and harmony with our fellowmen. ln behalf of the grad- uating class, I bid you good-bye. I. H. Bowen Lemoyne 12-S General Merchandise Stony Ridge, Ohio Sa lu tatorian LOIS KOENIG Parents, teachers, friends, and classmates, As Salutatorian of this graduating class of nineteen hundred and fifty-three, l am going to speak to you tonight on our class motto, Not finished: just begun . Although we have already gone to school for twelve years, we are not finished, but are about to begin a new life for ourselves with- out the aid of our parents and teachers. But we will have to use the knowledge and train- ing we got during these twelve years if we hope to secure good iobs and make a good life for ourselves. Some have already made their plans and are about to enter married life. Others will continue their education by going on farther in school. The boys are looking forward to iobs of various kinds, but most of them will have to delay their plans because of the present conflict in Korea. This is taking so many of our young men into the armed services. lt is problems like this and many others that we will have to cope with in the future. And as the leaders of the future, we must be familiar with these problems and begin to understand and take an interest in them. Suhr's Bui1der's Supply Jfoodville Road near Millzury Road Many of us will make mistakes and our plans will fall through, but we must not be discouraged. We must all remember that in spite of all the failures we encounter if we keep trying we shall reach the goal in the end. This should not only apply to us now, as the graduating class of nineteen hundred and fifty-three, but throughout our lives. So as we go on through life in all its trials and tribulations we should always remember our motto and we can truly say we are Not finished, but just begun . Ollie Rideoufs Auto Service Body 5.
