Class History 6.52 On September 7, 1940, seven from this year's graduating class started to school at Olney. They were: Bonita Adkins, james Brough, Louise Busson, Beverly Cramer, Fern Francis, Dale Heter, and Tom Pachelieff. Our first grade teacher was Miss Gertrude Rethinger, now Mrs. Tyler. She retired May, 1950, having taught for thirty-three years. Ours was the second class of beginners to start school in the new building. Our second grade was taught by Miss Kathleen Lowry, who later married Ralph Hicks. She still lives in our school district. It was during this year that we were joined by three more students. They were: Melvin Moulton from Raymer School: Ioan Meyers from Maumee: Marlene Simpson from Coy. Our third grade teacher was Miss Charlotte Norton. We do not know where she is located now. lt was during this year that we started to study geography and to learn our multiplication tables. ln the foiirth grade we were joined by Donald Simon from St. Mary's Parochial School. Our teacher was Mrs. Rideout. She is still teaching here at Olney. One thing that we remember that year was our beautiful Christmas tree and party. Our teacher did not have to look very far for a Santa Claus. Our fifth grade instructor was Mrs. Carrie Slemons. That year we had our start in art work. We continued our interest in the sixth grade under guidance of Mrs. Helen Morris. ln this grade we started getting ready to go upstairs to junior high. We all felt very proud to have accomplished six years of school. ln the seventh grade we were joined by six students from Lark. They were: loann 1-latt, Ernest Hirzel, William McMullen, loyce Pringle, Robert Stotz, and leannine Sutter. We had many parties that year and took care of our own library books. ln the eighth grade Kay Stewart and Marvel Wood came to us from Navarre School. We graduated from the eighth grade on May 21, 1948, with nineteen students. We were proud of our commencement exercises. Our freshman year started out with lots of pep. We were all excited about being in high school. We had paper drives and they were big events. Wanda Cunningham from Lake, came to us that year. When we were Sophomores we hadnoon dances. We also sold refresh- ments at the basketball games. In 1950, we started our junior year. Our first event was the Varsity Swing in February, 1950. Then May 5, 1951 the junior-Senior Prom was held at the Toledo Yacht Club. On September 4, 1951, we were surprised and pleased to greet the Walbridge Seniors. They were loyce Allen, Carol DeFa1co, Marie Fox, Melvin Hall, Edward Lusher, Bill Middaugh, Phyllis Keefer, loan Stover, Anna Lou Tiplady, Moira lean Traver, Elouise Williams. We were also joined by Oleh Cieply. lt has been a very happy and pleasant year. SENIOR CALENDAR September 4 .... ........................... S chool Started September 13. .. ....
