Prophecy of Class of 48 TIME 1977 PLACE The new Olney High School that is located on the north corner of Toledo s new Municipal Airport Time has changed everything including the school building It is now 40 stories high with 21 study halls 7 gynmasiums fi audltorlums 3land1ng fields 2 dance halls 2 built in movie theaters a beauty shoppe a barber shop a dry cleaning shoppe a drug store and a snack bar The students have it pretty soft too They go to school at 1100 and have Physical Education until 1200 eat until 130 dance until 2 30 sing until 3 00 and at 3 20 school is dismissed Since they have had th1s new schedule a new room has been added ex erv month because so many students now enroll at Olney Not one student has quit either Now I ll relate a day at the new O H S At 12 00 noon the new Ass1stantCount5 Superintendent Donna Brandburg who took Miss Offerman s place flew up in her atomic driven Crosley She banged up 1 couple of wings landing and lost her new hat she bought four years ago She rushed into the office and there found Supervntendent Rodney Polmg with his feet on the coffee table watching a football game on his television set She apologized for xnterruptlng his majesty and explained that she would like to make a tour of the rooms to make sure the students weren t wasting their time by studying In the hrst room she visited the Mechanical Drawing Room she found Mr Adkins down in a corner mvolved in a sophisticated game of gm rummy with some of the students Of course she gave Mr Adkins class 1007 bicause she always liked to see people enjoylng them se ves The next room was the Commercial Room where she found the teacher Miss Mary Lou Flamion busy mark Ing As on all her students report cards She marked 902 for Miss Flamion s class because she saw that none of the students were cheating Miss Brandburg believes that if you re going to cheat do it right' fThat1s wlthout getting caughtll just as Miss Brandburg started down the hall a terrific crash occurred at the other end of the building She dragged her weary bones as fast as she could to where the crash was heard There on the floor amidst the plaster and rubble lay Paul Kimball and Keith Hummon rubbing their heads As Paul explalned they were on their way homc ln his souped up jet propelled Packard Now m the need of glasses he couldn t see very well consequently he missed the landing field and crashed through the glass roofh Keith still craving for excltement just let htm cras Then who should come dashing up the stairs non other than Police Officer Don Sondergeld who charged Paul with exerythlng in the book but mostly disturbing the peace because he was sleeping and the crash awakened him He gave Paul a ticket and told h1m to report to judge Lowell Dille who by the way was experimenting on a flower he wanted to call the Gentleman s Boots Thatisacross betweena Lady Slipper and Dandelion Returning to the oflice Miss Brandburg interrupted Mr Polmgs football game again She used his walkle talkle to call the Woodvllle Wrecker Service that was noted for turning anything into a pile of junk In about fifteen minutes mechanic Bea Black flew up She hooked her plane onto the Jet Packard and dragged lt out of the school taking with her half of the ceiling In the meantime Keith started groanmg and yelling for a doctor because he said he was dying Police Officer Sondergeld mterrupted Mr Polmg s foot ball game this time and called for an ambulance No sooner had he hung up when the rocket driven meat wagon in other words an ambulance flown by attendant jim Coy and Doctor Howard Kurfis landed Jim picked up Keith s feet while Dr Kurfis grabbed him by his hair They tossed him into the back of the am bulance and took off When they arrived at the butcher shoppe fthe hosp1taD the receptionist Phyhss Bodl called the operating room and requested that all the axes saws hammers screw drivers etc be cleaned for immediate action They dragged Keith down the hall by one leg and put htm on the operating table Doc Kurfis then asked Nurse Schreiber for the saw and began h1s operation After elght hours it was completed and much to his surprise Keith had his heart and a few bones left Nurse Frederick then prepared Kelths room Nurse Norma Croak strapped Keith to his bed and having known Keith since they were kids they barred the win dows and bolted the door You see he always was a dangerous character After calling and finding that Keith was as well as could be expected Miss Brandburg resumed her tour of the rooms the Home Economics Room being the next on her l1st Here she found Mlss Doris Snyder teaching a class of boys the art of cooking From there Miss Brandburg went to the Music Room She found Miss Rosalyn Metzger still trying to figure out the words to I m My Own Grandpa Miss Brandburg then proceeded to the Science Room and whom should she see but Mr Kohler and across from him sat the ghost of Norma Hurst still trying to get an excused absence Miss
