Lt. Comdr. Iecm W. Moore Lt. Corncir. lean VV. Moore entered Base Hospital at Norfolk on Ianuary 7, 1943. After his training at Norfolk he was CSSlQI'.E3 to combat transport. For almost a year he has been overseas with the Commander Transports, 8th Amphibious Force. lofis overseas duty included participation in the battles of Gela and Salerno. The character of his service brought hini the following commendation from his commander: l.t. Conidr. lean VJ, Moore, senior medical officer of a corn- bat loaded transport, demonstrated unusual initiative and capaf bility in coordinating the organization of his medical department so that all facilities could be fully utilized during this period and in giving exhaustive training to his officers and men. Wliile under repeated bornbing and strafing attacks by hostile aircraft he coolly and successfully performed several operations of serif ous natures. His courageous leadership and devotion to duty during this campaign served as an inspiring example to all rnedical officers and corpsmen under his command Tne action described above, during which a number oi casualties were treated, reflects great credit upon the Naval service.
