These boys, all but two of whom are undergraduates, did admirably. They won no trophies but the team showed its fans plenty of fine basketball and above all, team spirit and iight. No one can be singled out as the out- standing player ot this bunch, with every one being the star in one or more games. Farris, at the end ot the season, was a well polished center with a deadly one-handed shot. Starting the schcol term with a war-time shortage of material, Mrs. Evelyn Germer, in her second year as band instructor, rapidly began the task of rounding out and filling in the various sections, until, by the time the football season rolled around, the band was in top shape and ready for another big year. After completion of football and basketball schedules, marching music took a back seat to the strains of overtures, symphonic selections, and concert marches, as all the band's musicians began training for the annual spring concert, given during the month of March. As a final public appearance for the year, the band played for senior commencement exercises on the night of May 29. f.,,,.., C FW.: f. ., ,mm mb ..-Q .,ra...a..s l3-rsr,..a- c. -aaa r..,.a.., Clarineiselerry Miller, lit: Baller, lohn Frederick, ffaraery Bas' keit, Barbara Campbell, Katherine Sue Llillirzax, Pat Strain Pat Scherer, lo Ann Totten, Carolyn lenkins, Avis Badgers, fffildred Griffin, lack Berry. Come spring, Thespians made the Amateur Show at the Pow- Wow a b-i-g success. The audience surely got a kick from lerry Millers Corn Band! laclcie Provost and Louise Laughton got a lot of claps for their song and dance number, and everyone nearly laughed tears at Pat Decker's humorous reading! This year's Troupe brought a new item into its activities, staging a formal initiation on April 20, at which time twelve new members were initiated. r y S azer Y 99 t Thespvs' Ox'26'S, le? to 'ghtz Awold Rc Jore, Stage M ' g 3 JoA'f Z 'e' .N SQ:'e'a'-T'ecs.'e'g JV' B-'Q', V':e P'f:s'1c Q Lofse Lmghton, Pesos . We '1 Yr Carolyn Callahans portrayal ot the eccentric old maid, Marv l.ou's ghastly appearance as the housekeeper, lirn l'larpster's role as a brutal Negro, and Nellie Elliott's characterization as the grandrnother, were excellent examples of swell acting. And Puzi Weber's screarns really sent shivers down several spines. Then Arnold Ray lones fooled everyone by turning out to be the gang- ster in the end. The success of this play when first produced warranted a second pertorrnance, sponsored by the newly organized Rainbow Assembly ot Qlney. lohn Frederick did a fine job with the part previously played by lim Harpster, who had joined the Navy. 2: Wp lOl The last production ot the year was a one act play, The Ring and the Look. This play was presented before visiting girls at the GJXA. spring playday, and as an O.T.l'l.S. asseibly proe grarn. The cast included lohn Frederick, Marshall Dodson, Caro- line Gassrhanri, Nellie Elliott, Roseann Lartilzert, Martha Gass- niann, Mary Nell Fessel, and Bonnie Brown. Those who did not participate in plays earned points by helpinq with publicity, properties, nialce-up, taking tickets, usher- inq, and other back stage Jobs. 'Niieri sufficient points were earned a niernber was recognized as a National Thespian. Those pictured below loecarrie National Tfiespians loefore the middle of the current school year.
