Next we played North Olmsted for our first league game, Bill Kolodey run- ning 53 yards for our only touch- down in the game that ended 33-6. Walter Brooks and Bill Kolodey scored TD's and .Tack Hecker kicked 2 extra points to spearhead our 14-6 triumph over Strongsville. In our only other non-league game, we whitewashed Elyria 25-0. Bill Hec- ker, Bob Rooney, and Bill Kolodey 121 scored the touchdowns, and Jack Hecker kicked one extra point. West- lake-turned the tables on us by whip- ping us 32-6 in our next game. Our score came when Bill Kolodey inter- cepted a pass and ran 102 yards for a touchdown. We bounced back by beating Brooklyn 6-0 as Bill Kolodey again intercepted a pass and raced 83 yards for our score. Bill Kolodey scored our only TD in the North Royalton game which we lost 14-6. However, this was one of the most exciting games of the season. Allan Guenther intercepted a pass but was unable to score as was the rest of the team as Bay Villiage triumphed 14 -0. Allan Guenther and Bill Kolodey were named to the All-Star team of the west county league and each has received a trophy. J gaffgefgdj 1949-50 Basketball Review The final curtain of the Olmsted Falls 1949-50 basketball season has fallen. The Bulldogs, having a record of ten wins and nine losses of which seven of the wins and five of the losses were in league games, ended in a third place tie with Brooklyn. Our first three games ended in defeats. The first two losses were nonleague games with Columbia and Berea. Then North Royalton defeated us with a score of 49-42. Finally our team began to click and we handed Strongsville their first defeat 43-34, and then went on to beat Bay 44-37. Doom struck as we met Westlake and lost by 11 points, 47-36. During the brief pause of Christmas vacation the Bulldogs embarrassed the Alumni 63-41. Our next game was allotted to Brooklyn, but the squad came back to beat our rival North Olmsted 45-30. The next two games were nonleague in which we bowed to Orange but defeated Elyria Catholic. This ended the first half of the season with five victories and six losses. We began our second half with four victories. North Royalton defeated us and then came a tight game with Strongsville which ended 33-30. Our next win was over Bay and then in a nonleague game , Elyria Catholic was again dismissed. Again came gloom as we met Westlake and the mighty West High. With high hopes our boys met and defeated Brooklyn 54-27 and journeyed on to North Olmsted. Besides the victory in this game there was great excitement when Jack Hecker scored 23 points to break our schoo1's record held by his brother. Jack totaled 315 to top the record Norb had, 309. In the tournaments, which were played at the B. W. Field House, we faced defeat at the hands of Cuya- hoga Heights, 31-20. All through the season our boys had undying spirit which is necessary for any team to be great. 1 4 ' ' , 26 gb, Back Row: Al Pearston, Glenn Weber, Dick Foley, Tom Stadler, Bill Hecker 2nd Row: Wayne Shafer, Bob Jameyson, Phil Neitenbach, Bud Burc- D hard, Bob Smetana, Coach Freitas Front Row: Bill Long, Jack Hecker, Bill Rutz, George Lemel, Walter Brooks, Don Harder Badedaf The squad this season will welcome back a few regulars which should contribute considerably to our hopes for a season of wins. Among some of those returning are Don Harder, last year's regular pitcher, Bob Smetana, a terrific backstop, and many other promising boys. We expect to get spring training into full swing shortly after the close of the basketball season. This will consist of short pepper sessions and a gradual warming up of the pitchers. The competition is going to be keen, but watch our smoke as we get into the swing of things! n Coach Freitas ' Back Row: Norman Centers, Ronald Oaklief, George Wheeler, Fred Loepp, Don Smith, Lyle Rayner . 2nd Row: David Gates, Walter Renton, Bill Hall, Charles Gall, Bill Heck- er, Coach Burton. Front Row: Bill Rutz, Glenn Weber, George Lemel, Walter Brooks, Don Harder, Phil Neitenbach. jfacg This year we are looking forward to a very good track season. Most of last year's football players will be out for track or baseball so we should have a good looking team. Among the veterans returning to Varsity are Walter Ren- ton, Bill Hecker, Glenn Weber, Charles Gall, George Lemel, Walt Brooks, Don Harder, Phil Neitenbach, Bill Hall and Bill Rutz. Most of the school track records were set only five or six years ago. The latest record to be established was in 1948 when Leonard Brooks threw the shot put 39 feet. Dick Bislich holds the most records for Olmsted Falls . Here they are: 100 yard dash 10.5 seconds 1946 Mile run 4:50.5 seconds 1945 B80 yard relay 1:35.19 seconds 1944 fholds record with three othersj Mlle relay 4:01 .0 seconds 1944 2 mile relay '9:09.0 seconds 1945 George Payne holds tour other records for our school: 440 yard dash 56.8 seconds 1945 880 yard run 2:08.0 seconds 1945 Mile relay 4:01.0 seconds 1944 2 mile relay 9:09.0 seconds 1945 This year practice will start soon after the close of basketball season, and we will participate in several track meets this spring. 1950, we hope, will es- tablish many new records for Olmsted Falls. SA ' O 1,9 5 Og SHIP: O.F.S. '50 UNDER MANAGEMENT OF: Olmsted Falls Institute of Erudition DESTINATION: Isle of Graduation DATE OF DEPARTURE: September 6, 1937 TIME OF DEPARTURE: Two bells ESTIMATED LENGTH OF VOYAGE: Twelve years. The maiden voyage of the -'O.F.S. '50 began in September, 1937, with 57 crew members aboard. Little did they realize that only 13 of their original number: Mary Lou Campbell, Bill Hall, Carol Jones, Joan Kaskey, Bill Kolo- dey, Nadine Lingruen, Betty Moyer, Anita Pretko, Ann Schmied, Bill Thomp- son, Lee Usher, Bob Wendt, and Nancy Woodman, would reach their predestined goal. With Miss Bonar as captain and Miss Cook as first mate, the struggling crew grew accustomed to the life ahead of them. After one year, still a long way from its goal, but with a definite course raving been plotted, the ship was put into dry dock for major repairs and the crew was given a three month's shore leave. The second season was pepped up with two new additions to the bunch, Betty Brazie and June DeVore. This year they were exposed' to the dreaded disease, 'reading, 'riting' and 'rithmetic. Unfortunately for Captain Bonar and the new first mate, Miss Bonsey, the crew seemed immune to such pitfalls. - The third year, Cap Bonar and Mate Bonsey lthey got to know them pretty well by nowj, still thinking they could outlast the crew, tried another trip. Four new workers were shanghaied on board. They were: Anthony Alterici, Shirley Canant, Paul Floreske and Bill Rutz. They were unable to dock the next year, so, under the supervision of Cap Bonsey QMiss Bonar gave upj and First Mate Ballou, they continued without reinforcements, until Allan Guenther, sole survivor of another ship, was taken on board. This lmppened in the middle of the season. The fifth year was marked by the boarding of the ship of the famous pirate, Bud Burchard. After keeping him in chains for awhile, he was finally freed and tamed down to routine. Miss Baesel and Mrs. Cherry were co-captains. As they hoisted the anchor to begin their sixth year's voyage, who should they find hanging of the anchor but Bob Uhle. As there was no alternative but to pull him in, the stowaway was drafted into the crew. Plotting the course that year were Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Cherry. Well, you must give them credit! They have now semi-circumnavigated Qget that wordj their course in erudition. Beginning the second half of the expedition with revived spirits and another hand to polish brass KCarol Agnewl, besides being a bit more familiar with the routine of larnin , they were able to lighten the load of their captains, Miss Baker and Mrs. Williams, by electing Charles Hickey their seventh grade class president. He was formally named Assistant Captain . During the eighth season three new map-holders were acquired. They were Honey Klein, Carol McRae, and Ruth Yorkavitz. Mrs. Blake handled the charts this year: she was aided by Bud Burchard. P 1 In the ninth year the old ship, no longer sea-worthy, was abandoned in favor of a new, more streamlined craft that was designed to take them to the Isle of Graduation. The salesman, giving them a good t?l bargain, threw Don Flore- ske, Chuck Nagy, and Dale Riedel in with the deal. This craft was christened the O.F.H.S. CLUB 50 by Miss Schoen and Mrs. Blake. This year's As- sistant Captain was Ruth Yorkavitz. Man Overboard! The season ended with the tragic loss of Bob Uhle. By the tenth year, the crew was getting rather tired so Jean Schreiber, Bob Smetana, and John Wray had to be hired to take the oars for them. If it hadn't been for Mrs. Klinger and Mr. Miller, as co-captains, and Carol Agnew, as president cracking the whip, they would have run aground that year. By the time they had left port, starting the eleventh season, two new fire- men, Rex Asten and Ella Kelling, had been signed on board. A rather peaceful trip was expected until one day when Bill Kolodey, the navigator, while up in the crow's nest looking for whales, sighted their long-lost fand pretty well water-loggedl companion, Bob Uhle. By means of real Knot artificial, nothing but the best! respiration, he was revived in time to take part in the great stage production Tattletale . He was also well enough to attend the Junior-Senior Prom held in Port Cleveland at the Masonic Temple. Realizing what a good job she had done in the tenth grade, the crew re-elected Carol Agnew to be captain and then promoted her to the rank of admiral. Under the extremely capable supervision of Miss Harding, the ship really began to operate on a profitable basis. The main attraction which had people beating a path to their gangplank were the very successful Club 50 dances. One of the highlights of the final docking ceremonies of the O. F.H.S. CLUB 50 was the prom given by the rival shipping line 51 . But the climax of their expedition in erudition was the graduation ceremony which took place on Friday, June 2, 1950, in the Olmsted Falls High School Auditorium. There they met for the last time as a crew before each member set out to form his own company for the purpose of seeking his own goal in life . ell Carol Agnew ........ Anthony Alterici . .
