That was the day the '49ers began their ca- 2 reer as school children under the careful direction of Mrs. Bonner. The sixteen Q beginners were: Doyle Estes, Ray Estes, Willard Hubba, Delbert Estes, Bllly Lee , lhy, Billy Northup, Robert Morrow, Norman Winn, Eugene Jasper, Gilbert Mitchell, a granoes Gavin, Karolyn Davis, Eloise HcGreery, Betty Sloan, Rosella Williams and 'Q rene Sharp. Q 7 Q In the second grade, six of the above were lost and one added-Richard Underwood. I S 3. The thrill of the third grade was going up the large concrete steps at the front 1 of the school building. Another privilege formerly denied primary folk was the s teeter-totter behind the school building. Miss Qulre taught the group how to' g multiply and divide. E Fractions were difficult ln the fourth grade. Vilma Van Orsdall and Richard 2 Long joined at this station. 1 John Gavin came aboard as a fifth grader right in the midst of decimals with Hrs 4 Ghandler at the helm. 2 Q Miss Eckley greeted the parade at entrance to grade slx where Yvonne Bales also Q answered roll call. 5 Now to the top floor and grade seven did the parade continue. Recess--a most enjoyable time at school--was lost forever. Q f. Q 1? In the eighth grade, the 'N9ers enjoyed graduation exercises. They chose their - own class colors, flower and motto. They were 'ra1nbow', 'sweet pea' and gg 'Onward' respect1vely.' They also presented a play-'The Little Red Schoolhouse' . Happy indeed was the day this group entered high school. They were 16 strong: 'f Bill Blake, Yvonne Bales, John Gavin, Norman Winn, Karolyn Davis, James Follman, 1 Ray Estes, Richard Underwood, Betty Frltchen, Betty Lankford, lllma Van Grsdall, 1 Richard Long, Bill Northup, Frances Paxton, Norman Daly and Eloise Mcdreery. All were roughly entertained that year by the seniors at the annual initiation, , 1, Avon Gardner was a new member this year. The group sponsored its first school 1 dance as sophomores. H 'You're the Doctor' was the name of the Junior Play--a success due to hard prac- tice. The annual banquet was held in the local gymnasium. Glass rings now a- , dorn the hands of each. Q Three cf the class members mentioned in grade one journeyed all twelve years to- n gether. They are: Karclyn Davis, Norman Winn and Bay Estee. Bob Emry enrolled 3 with the grou this last year of school. So the beginners of 1937 become the ? seniors of 19 . Thus ends a brief history with thanks to many and best wishes 5 'Q s to all. i ., , V . , , , , ' , 'vw-vrrv-rv wi- -,V 1-rr-'qv--, Y- . -fy., W r, . f A .-..,g.Q ' 1,-p,g-3-RJQM2-QLLLLLLQim-M. .Q .44 V- ,,M,.- ,Ak-rg .-,tis 1. ,, ,.k.Y.f.:k ., 7... ,A-LL-',., ,ALL -L.
