In American history each decade can be labeled with one short phrase which summarizes a ten year span. For instance, the 1930 ' s were the decade of economic depression . . . the ' 40 ' s were a time of war . . . the ' 50 ' s were dedicated to the status quo . . . the ' 60 ' s were a time of social upheaval . . . and the ' 70 ' s a time for individualism. Olivet has had its decades too: The 1940 ' s were a time of transition to a new campus ... the ' 50 ' s, a decade of achievement including North Central accreditation . . . the ' 60 ' s were a decade of expansion and building . . . and the 1970 ' s were again a time of transition from one long term president to new leadership, with a shift of focus from buildings to a concern for lifting the quality of life and campus beautification. And now the decade of the ' 80 ' s is under way, but not without a plan. The machinery is already turned on for fund raising, faculty student planning, architectural drawings, and construction of three new campus buildings . . . The Larsen Fine Arts Center . . . the Les Parrott Field House . . . and a new 250-bed residence hall for men. But that is not all. Sometime in this decade, the president and trustees need to give attention to an adequate chapel which is consistent with the quality and high priority of spiritual co on this campus. This may I by rebuilding the present Ci Hall to overcome its liabiliti with a beautiful new fine art chapel auditorium. During t decade the person may appear who can make a huge donation for this project. During this decade programs will be developed to involve every campus person — faculty and
