)r J. Ottis Saues Dr. J. Ottis Sayes came to Olivet Nazarene College in 1 956. He has established himself as a man of confidence and candor, a man interested in the future. His academic ability earned him the position of chairman of the Division of Religion and Philosophy in 1 966, the position he currently holds. Dr. Sayes is interested in others. Serving as advisor to the Associated Student Government since 1 959, Dr. Sayes ' openness and honesty have been of great benefit to the student body. Any student council member of the past or the present would be able to verify his invaluable contribution. His concern has evidenced itself in his participation in many college committees. He was chairman of the Culture Series for a number of years, served on Olivet ' s intercollegiate Athletic Board, and is presently a member of the review board that awards honorary degrees. At one time he also held the position of director of graduate studies in religion. The major area of Dr. Sayes academic concern is in Christian Education. He is one of the authors of Exploring Christian Education and Exploring Our Christian Faith. A frequent contributor to the Herald of Holiness, Church School Builder, and Preacher ' s Magazine, he is now on a committee to evaluate Sunday school curriculum for the Church of the Nazarene. As an advisor and contributor to The Enduring World Series, his work is seen in Nazarene adult Sunday school classes throughout the denomination. Dr. Sayes is in the forefront of Christian education. He is mentioned in the ' ' Who ' s Who in American Educators, Who ' s Who in the Mid West and the — ' International Biography of Who ' s Who in Religion. The openness and concern of Dr. Sayes has touched the lives of all of us at Olivet. He stands on his convictions, and he believes in Education with a Christian Purpose. Dr. Sayes is a man who learns from the past, lives in the present, and looks to the future. This, the 1 980 AURORA, is dedicated to Dr. J. Ottis Sayes. DEDICATION 15
