p WINDS AND STRINGS PERFORM Hi lily, hi lily, Harlowe referring to Prof. Hopkins was often sung by the Concert Band members between Sonatina by Giovanni and the Git on Board by Paul Yoder. Music ranging from the Renaissance fugue to the Negro Spiritual indicated the versatility of the members. The band personnel practiced faithfully, in trying conditions, to create the best sound. The results were evident. Their music was warmly received by grade schoolers when they visited the Alan Shepard school, and by oldsters in the small churches in southern Indiana. One of the most popular musical groups on campus and community is the Concert Band; it was worth hearing at every opportunity. As Olivet players begin to warm- up, Prof. Young steps to the podium and scans the strenuous yet exhilarating music of Bach, Beethoven or Bartok. Imported from the Kankakee area, are numerous professional musicians to create the full orchestra sound. 26

The fresh style and easy-going manner of Kent, Cliff and Phil complimented their display of musical artistry. The original composition by Cliff was just one highlight of the evening. Comments such as great, best we ' ve heard for a long while, and fantastic seemed to indicate the favorable reaction of those attending. Next to our own Weather, Kent, Cliff, and Phil seemed to have gained the best support from an Olivet audience. So good, in fact, they were invited back in February for a repeat performance.
