I I Q It is a pleasure for me once again to prepare the annual Principal's message for our yearbook. The opportunity to do it is each year most interesting, for it tends to bring into unusual focus all those happenings which have taken place since a year ago. There is sometimes a tendency for all of us to deery over our times and to refer sentimentally and happily to other eras and express the wish that we had had the chance to live in other circumstances and other times. No year could have more disproven this thinking than the one we now look back upon. The great speed with which earth-shaking events took place could only inspire in each one of us a feeling of gratitude that we have been allowed to share even as spectators in these historic times. This, then, is the message that I would send to you. That we should to the fullest enjoy and learn from this' day to day world we live in. Let us not dream idly of the past or wish hopefully for a vague and indefinite future. Let us instead enjoy and learn to the fullest in what is, perhaps, the most interesting era in the history of the world. PETER C. McCONARTY Principal - a Graduating from high school in the year 1958 should be an inspiration and a great challenge to any young American. It -has been during your present school year that we have seen one of the greatest races that Mankind has ever experienced to conquer outer space. Mere dreams and unheard of possibilities of today become the realities of tomorrow. This New Age, which we are just entering, needs people of integrity, people with ambition and people with a spirit of adventure. Many of you will decide on a college career. Some of you will enter the field of industry, the armed forces, or some other occupation. Many boys who have been in the armed services have considered this a period of education, either through study or travel. The opportunity in America today is greater for a larger number of people than it has ever been. Decide on a goal for yourself and set your sights high. Be determined, and the traits of this determination will be yours. PHILIP M. HALLOWELL Superintendent of Schools
