'ix 30 Me Clfaw 0 l950: Your graduation marks the first for the second half of our century. Your motto indicates your fitting goal- The future is our guiding light. Your efforts and your ideals have brought you success - - graduation. Congratula- tions, to each and every member of the class. May success and happiness be yours always. Fortunately, those who have gone before have charted many of the landmarks and milestones that give direction and breadth to our careers. Happier and more efficient years ahead result from a good start. It is impor- tant that we know and recognize our needs: namely, to develop our personality in the way we most desire and to resolve the many conflicts that arise in every-day living. Life itself is simple: it is man that makes it complicated. Man's intellect gives him many advantages, yet he is enmeshed in material things and is in a constant struggle with conflicting desires, with prejudices, with greed and ambition. To succeed he needs a definite goal, promoted by self-interest and seasoned by a sense of humor and of proportion. In short, we need to develop a way of life that leads us to happiness. To learn to interpret the signs of the times is our challenge. I know of no way of judging the future but by the past. We need to develop the ability to adjust ourselves to change. The lessons we learn from living with people to-day will be useful to-morrow. Ideologies differ, but let us always resolve to live the democratic way of life. You will be the leaders of to-morrow.
