eEZ5eJicafion Dear Class of 'Fiftyz You were born at the dawn of an era which has since been called the era of the common man. It is true that the era has been marred by a war, but it is as true that it has been stimulated by that war. That war may well serve to remind us, too, that in this, our era, great strides of social progress have been and are being taken -- and that such social progress is paced by the greatest nation the world has ever known. Provident grace has made you a part of that greatest nation - - that nation of cosmopolitan individuals whose unlim- ited initiative and energy has wrung endless new horizons from the world of L. Four WAYNE G. WESSNER the atom, in such recent months as your own high school days. As you take leave of your alma ma- ter, you have expressed, through this book, a zeal and yearning for the future -- and well you may, for you are the most richly blessed youth of the world. Unscathed by war, you bring to the future unblemished hope for even great- er progress. Yours is the heritage of democracy's, You're as good as I am. Yours is the opportunity of the land which represents the epitome of the great social faith that - - u The individual human being is of surpassing worth. The earth and human culture be- long to all men. Men can and should rule them- selves. The human mind can be trusted and should be set free. The method of peace is superior to that of war. Racial, cultural, and political mi- norities should be tolerated, respected, and valued. May provident grace continue to at- tend and bless your vibrant, youthful efforts as you ply your every talent, in places great and small, to the fur- ther uplifting of your fellowmen. In truth - - There is a destiny that makes us brothers. None goes his way alone. All that we send into the lives of others Comes back into our own.
