In fact, over fifty have been given by individuals or organizations about town. Also this year the library, with the cooperation of the English and Art Departments gave an assembly program during book week. Book marks were given to everyone coming to the library that week and a very good list of books enjoyed by teen- agers was printed. Miss Gould would like to encourage any student who is at least a freshman A to be a library aide to work from two to Eve periods a week if their schedule permits. The Cross-Country team hnished its most successful season in its three year history with a 4-won, l-lost record in five dual meets. The season's only loss came at the hands of Amherst Central School in the hrst of these Hve meets. Following the lone defeat, Olean defeated Hamburg, shut out Silver Creek, beat Gowanda and triumphed over Lancaster. The initial meet of the season found Olean in second place in the twelve- school Barker Invitational Run, and the season ended on a triumphant note, as Oleanls Bruce Phillips won the Sectional crown in Olean, on November 8, with Bill Subject copping second spot. Three Olean runners went to the State Meet at Schenectady with the Section VI team, where Subject placed first for the Section, in 17th spot. This year's Cross Country squad numbered I8 runners, including 8 juniors, 8 Sophomores, and two Freshmen. Since there were no Seniors, this year's team will be returning as a unit, and threatens to end the resign of Amherst Central in YVestern New York Cross Country.
