Ol To Th escu On July 10, 1980, the Oly team put together a combined air and sea rescue of 55 Vietnamese ref- ugees in the South China Sea. The tasking for the rescue operation came While the ship was on a routine transit from Singapore to Subic Bay in the Philippines. What was intended as a limited assist to a small boatload of stranded people turned into a dramatic rescue effort when Oldendorf learned of the large number of people aboard the hapless craft, none of whom had eaten for many days.
