The theme was '4Medic. After the unusually hilarious stunts, a big dance was held. The year passed steadily and finally came the arrival of the class rings in Feh- ruary. This was a time of hustle and hustle. with everyone showing everyone else rings. This year a Sophomore, Rachel Fortier, was voted the sehooi's Daisy Mae at the annual Sadie Hawkins' Dance. We were very proud of that! Another classmate of whom we are very proud is Helen Fournier, who was runner-up at the Girls' State Foul Shooting Championship. Good luck next year, Helen! The Sophomores are doing something different this year. Theylre presenting a one-act play, HNobody Sleepsf' With the fine coaching of Mrs. Graff and with the help of prompter Mary Ellen Tripp, itis sure to be a big hit! Our first few weeks of high school life, like those of many Freshman classes. were full of embarrassment as the upperclassmen played various stunts on us. Freshman Day was exciting and came to a close with an exciting reception and a dance following. We elected the following officers at our first meeting: President, Williaiii Durfeeg Vice President, Bertram Moodyg Secretary. Wayne lleedg Treasurer, ,loan Nieoletos. The Freshman Student Council members are: Cary Girard, Peter Gregory, and lliehard Rowlands. W'e wish to gixe our sincere thanks to Mrs. Fickctt. Mrs. Graff, and Mr. Shaw for being our class Advisors and for all they have done in guiding us in our activities. We are proud to say that five Freshmen were chosen for the Speaking Contest: Richard Kadlec, Dorothy John- ston, Wayne Reed. and Joan Nieoletos. Dorothy Blow and Bertram Moody were alternates. We are happy to an- nounce that Dorothy Johnston won first prize for the girls and W35'IlC Heed won second prize for the boys. During the sports season our class was active with most of the Freshmen in the Athletic Association. The follow ing Freshmen were on the high school basketball teams. Nancy Delisle, Cary Girard, Williaiil Durfee, Wayne Heed Victor Ste. Marie, Harold Crosby, Evan Crosby. Albert Fish, and Patrick Hogan. The following Freshmen were on the high school football teams: Wayfile Reed, Patrick Hogan, Harold Crosby, and Richard llersom. The Freshman Class chose a one-act mystery-comedy, The Laughing Ghostf' to be their annual Freshman Play. It was a delightful story concerning Pamela Norton lDorothy Blowl, who arrives unexpectedly at the Old Sturges, Mansion at three oiclock in the morning. She has come from Chicago to marry the heir of the family, Joe Sturges lliichard Rowlandsl. ,loe's family consists of Barbara Louis lSandra Arabyl, his aunt, a grim, overbearing womang his uncle, Edward Louis tHarvey Shawl, a very timid soulg Daisy Sturges lludy Hansonl, Joels sister, who speaks very rapidly and constantly, Elaine Sturges ljoan Nicoletosl, ,loels other sister, who is more dignified than Daisyg and Cleopatra fCandy Curitl, the colored maid, who never smiles and speaks with a southern accent. Although the Seagulls lost two fierce com- petitors in the first game in scatback, Frank Hogan and Arn Harrison, a rugged 200-pound endg the Beach provided ample reserves to take up the slack and finish third in the state among medium schools. The Seagulls' eight wins are the most that any Old Orchard team has posted in one season. The Seagulls, after dropping their first five games by wide margins, received a lift from the return to action of the injured Johnny Ladakakos and split their remaining twelve games to finish with a 6-11 won-lost record. Mcsweeney was handicapped by the loss of piyotman Arne Harrison, forward Frank Hogan, and nearly all of the 1954-55 team by graduation. This season has been used as a rebuilding season for future years and brought into prominence such rising young cagers as Freshmen Cary Girard, Bill Durfee. and Vic Ste. Marie. The Culls' first win of the season was a T5-59 trampling of traditional rival Could Academy behind the 26 points of Ladakakos. From there they went on to defeat York, and after losing a streak of four games came hack home to trounce Eliot and York again. In the Sandford tourney, the Seagulls passed Eliot 67 to 53 to take them into the semi-final. Old Orchard Beach nearly pulled the upset of the year as they held the lead 8092 of the game only to lose by live points to first-rated St. Ignatius, a team which had drubbed the Beach twice before. The Seagulls than took third place with a win over St. Francis in the consolation game. Prospects for next year are bright with such returnees as Johnny Ladakakos, Tom Tucker, and Harold 'gBaba Desjardin, Juniorsg Dick Metaycr and Norm Ouelette, Sophornoresg and the three aforementioned Freshmen. 0.0.11 loses only one letter- man, Bill Champagne by graduation. uTalce me out with the Crowd ,mu L ow D Qlark H 1 o 1 W Retcl B Dmlltptnh ny F Lfmm K 'llcmur V Sh VN .lru fl o ron nw llrsjdrm 1 One 0 These Dam The Seagull RESCFXCQ pliyul Wllll 1 Wlllllllln' pllll lllfflllgllllul the xc von mtl thelr vlctory margms 111 thrte f 'dIlltN were prmlcleml for by ilu- l1uQlle e prlme functlon of '1 june I mtet 1 t x 1 lr QGTVICC Coach Cl13flCQ Lorfmgtr fllcl ju'-t tl1'1t '1 he cnt up Qucll frlmlt performers tw lck lVletayer lllllllly lllllllllll I3 ln J 1 mtl l it llogm C0 Ich MCSWNCPIIFQ Qent clown lllll llurfu mel V11 Ste lVl1r1c to bolster tllc ylywees llllQ trlo IJlZ1yCfl Q0 mll ll11I lllll lu 1 1rH1l1 for Q ICQC suen pliure plus lIlllIlSl'lXS ltl umrc lllfly lJesj1rcl111 W1y11e eec X'lIl CroQlJy cl lu lwrotl S 1:1 mos lll rut After four opmnmg lowu llogm llurlte Mtlijtf incl lenure employed '1 Qeem I f 1111cl1l1le rltfcnst f.7llllSl rug c I ffl L hangers 50-fl-9. flle Pulls krpt the wirminf l1'1lJll versus York with llurfeef Lemire fmfl Heed leafling tl1e111 to 1 ml lo '15 v41'rli4't.
